Worth it for Story Mode?
I'm one of those bizarre people who enjoys a good story and well-built characters in a fighting game. I love ensemble casts and fighting games provide a good template for building a mythology without focus on a single protagonist. I know Street Fighter has never really been known for its story, but I remember geeking out over the backstories when Street Fighter II came out.

So my question is, as someone who doesn't care for multiplayer, will I enjoy my time with the story mode of this game? I suppose I'd particularly value the input of people who grew up with these characters like I did.

Thanks!

Watch story mode on YouTube.

Versus mode (online/offline) is where the heart of the game is in SFV.

Solo content, especially if it's your only goal here, won't last long enough for this price tag.

That's not the same to me as actually participating. Feels like I'm going on an adventure with the characters that way.

no...plain and simple no.
the story mode is just bad and not worth it at all.

buying the game for it is just a waste of your money.

Sadly the way they did it in this game, it's no different from watching it on youtube. It feels too much like a long cut scene, as interaction is rather limited to random 1 round matches just to get to the next cut scene.

It's not the worst, it's just cringy, but the lack of interaction was just disappointing, Injustice did it better I think. Because in SFV you're not really "part" of anything that's happening, you just watch, and randomly do a match because "hey let's fight no reason, then get back to the plot"

The OP is looking for storymode though, And killer instinct does NOT have a good story mode at all.

Like everyone here said , don't buy this for Single player content , especially not Story Mode.

I would recommend Mortal Kombat over SFV. Hell if you don't mind anime graphics the Naruto games are actually a lot of fun to play for the single player content , there's a lot of it and you feel like you really are on an adventure. It's not the same kind of combat as Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat that's for sure but it's still fun to play.

Thanks everyone. I've enjoyed the story modes in the past few Mortal Kombats and Injustice even though I'm not a DC guy. Killer Instint has had me curious since that's another game I loved as a kid, but have been hearing conflicting things about whether the story is worth it or not. Skullgirls did a good job but I'm ashamed to say I'm not a big fan of modern anime so that can distract me from the story. Perhaps what I'm looking for is just very, very rare!

Story Mode in SF V is like watching those low budget movies with bad acting. If you don't like to take stories seriously then it is a decent buy I guess...

Killer Instinct doesn't have a story mode. If you don't like anime then you're pretty much screwed because BlazBlue is basically the only one with a good story mode (Injustice is good too but it's old, and MKX is not really better than SF5); Xrd's story is not interactive.

Shaq Fu had the best story mode. This is a close second.
