Which SF teaches you the best fundamentals?
A few of my friends have told me getting into SF really helped them in other fighting games, which one would be the best to pick up to get better fundamentals?

Thanks but I mean't which game, I see a lot of people still playing USF4 and 3S so I'm not sure If I should play one of them or 5

USF4 will give you the most bang for your buck, very big character roster and the fundamentals are the same as other SF games. SF5 will cost alot more cash to unlock the characters and stages and stuff, but there will be a bigger player pool for online play. It all depends what you are looking for.

Yes SFIV is good if you don't want to learn SF.

@OP SF2 by any means. ST in general.

SFV does have tutorial that will teach you basics and game mechanics it also have trials that will teach you how to do some combos for every character. Also you can meet beginners online, so it will not be too hard to start playing.

Super Turble.

But that game can be really unforgiving of you're not careful.

I'd say sf2ww (I think st is too fast for that) and sfv.

This guy didn't read the OP :/

Anyway:
SF fundamentals are best learned in SF2.

There is some stuff in SFA2 Gold that's good too.

Honestly, if you want to get a fighting game to learn the fundamentals, I strongly recommend picking up Skullgirls during a sale (you can sometimes get it for like a $1).

It comes with a very very good tutorial section that'll teach you the fundamentals of a fighting game.

Skullgirls isnt about fundamentals, stop recommending it just because it has a decent tutorial.

Also all SF games are good at teaching fundamentals, except for SF3 because the parry messes with concepts that apply to both previous and later entries in the series.
SF3 is basically a beast of its own.

Super Turbo is pretty fun to go back and revisit. There are usually a few people in the fightcade lobby and it's about as 'Street Fighter' as it gets.

SFV is nice because it's more a return to form in a lot of ways and considerably much easier than the older titles, but the developers were also trying to make a game that people who didn't know how to playin fighting games could pick up and play, which is slightly unfortunate if you appreciate a vaired skill ceiling and that really shows with some aspects/decisions they made.

I'd also argue against anyone who says SFIV is a bad place to learn fundamentals, that's just not accurate. Every iteration deviates a bit, but the core values of Street Fighter are still present. Personally, SFIV put me in a position to where I was easily able to pick up older titles and then, moving forward, it set me up to be better than the majority of the playerbase in SFV.

There's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in all of these games, which is important to remember as well. SFII, Alpha, SFIII, SFIV, SFV... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ everywhere. There will always be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Write that down.

I'd say 2 turbo or V. They'll teach you basic concepts that apply to every game like spacing, punishing etc...without too many confusing mechanics

I agree with your post, but I do think it should be mentioned that with such a heavy emphasis on knockdown > vortex, and with implimentation of the Focus attack, a lot of players could hit lower intermediate in this game without proper fundamentals. Once you hit a certain skill bracket, fundamentals are everything, but there were a lot of players that would just LOL-Vortex, or abuse backdash/focus instead of learning to block, and playing the footsies game.

The game had what, over 40 characters? It is easy to get caught in the weeds for a new player with so much going on.

Edit: ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Is that Kikaider???
