Was anyone else happy to see him lose? I was jumping for joy when Tokido teabaged him and got in his head.

I'm very happy that Tokido won (been rooting for him at EVO for years), but that doesn't mean I was happy Punk lost. Punk did, and has been doing, great and deserved to be where he was. His antics are enjoyable to watch, and part of the game. Like it or not.

The SF-FGC is a great community with a massive amount of good people. More than any other community I've ever been a part of. There's nothing wrong with crying when you're emotional. Shame on you guys for teasing him like a bunch of bullies.
Yeah dude people who dislike a cocky disrespectful 18 year old are bullies

The dude's game is very monotonous, nothing but shimmy and frame trap all day on a very strong character, and he still acts like he is a god given to SF. He deserved getting destroyed and Tokido showed him how to have style without making fun of people outside of the game or teabagging.

He's 18 years old, he needs to mature, and this should be a wakeup call. Nobody hates him, they just dislike his immature attitude because he does it all the time and it was getting old

I think this comment is a little more well rounded than the last. I can get behind this line of thinking.

I did notice that all the wolfkrone hate has shifted entirely to punk. Why do we have to spend so much time downing the immature, why couldn't this have been a Tokido thread instead?

When you put their titles together it is a nice juxtapositioning, "Murder-face beats punk in finals."

Tokido didnt teabag him, teabag is lame. he did a taunt into goshoryu, and i like that, Tokido really got some gut doing that in a tournament
Yeah Tokido didn't teabag, I saw both sets.

Anyway I personally dont think Punk's a crybaby... I mean he's a young man, still inexperienced (at life in general), and he lost in front of family, friends, and a bunch of people who all expected him to take it for America.

While I don't think nerves was the only reason he lost (I heard that just before EVO Tokido beat him 10-0 in casuals), I do think it played a factor. But either way Tokido was playing amazingly... last time he was playing that well was when he beat Infil at CEO in 2016. Yay for Tokido the slayer! :D

Just wanted to clarify!

Justin Wong (the sets happened at his house) said that they (Punk and Tokido) played a bunch of sets and Tokido beat Punk in all of them, except the last one.

Sports competitors cry all the time when the lose major tournaments. Roger Federer cried when he came second in the Australian open.

Ahh so does that mean it was 10-1? Anyway yeah I saw Wong saying how funny it was that EVO grandfinals was actually going on in his house lol

Both Punk and Nuckledu have been teabagging in tournaments for MONTHS. These guys are very young and aren't subject to coprorate culture. For both of them, fighting games are their "career". The FGC is rife with unsavory characters, betting, and immaturity. It's not a surpirse then that their "behavior" isn't professional at all times.

Having said that, Punk crying on stage got to me a little. It was a reminder that regardless of the money, or his skill level at the game, he's just a young video game player. The stage and stakes were just really too much for him to handle. When the crowd started chanting "USA" during the awards, he was just on the verge of a breakdown. He wasn't thinking about clapping for the other competitiors, or the cameras, he just wanted out of there. He tasted dissapointment at a high level. Few people commenting haven't/will not experience such a public thrashing.

I don't know, but for me, not doing what they are doing is kinda common decency and sportsmanship, not "corporate culture". And it doesn't stop at that, they seem very machiavellian (Du's stoppage vs Tokido where he simply reselects Guile for example).

Again, not illegal, just so we understand each other, but manipulative. I can't imagine someone like Du being actually a good person. Now, before you all bring out pitchforks and accuse me of judging a book by its covers - I would like to say that neither me nor anyone I know would go for a momentum break through insincere character selection break and if they somehow would (which they wouldn't but for the sake of example), they wouldn't be able to sleep at night for a long time after that. Not because it's a huge transgression in practical sense, but as an attack on their own integrity.

Before we get in the talk about high stakes, I was in similar situations and I can't say that underhanded tactics didn't occur to me in my mind, but never did I even think of acting upon them.

What sort of little ♥♥♥♥♥ gets triggered by teabagging?

I dunno, anyone who tries to have faith in this community showing JUST A LITTLE bit of some sportsmanship, especially in this day and age?

Also Xian, Kbrad and quite a few others... People tend to forget that certain actions carry figurative and symbolic meaning and that our communication boils down to those elements. I swear, I have seen actual persons coming up with justifications as banal as "teabagging doesn't mean anything, it's a repeated crouching motion, why are people getting upset over valid mechanical play".
When I witness someone calling someone's mother a ♥♥♥♥♥ and that other person gets upset, I'll be sure to express my utter disbelief at them being upset because of mere air leaving someone's mouth, forming vowels and consonants. I mean, I am sure we can go down to molecules if we really try, in which case any reaction will seem completely nonsensical.

The game has a taunt feature so the game itelf encourages it. Tokido even used a taunt against Punk.

Yeah, he's young and he gets emotional. I can understand that. Especially when you put in so much work. No shame in crying. What I didn't like is when Tokido was given the medal and crowned Champion, all of the rest of top 8 cheered, clapped, smiled etc. Punk tied his hands behind his back and refused to even LOOK at Tokido. He seemed very upset and emotional. Which is fine but to not even akncowledge the player standing next to you or simply clap for his outstanding performace? lool Wow.

Now, as much as I hate Punk ( and again, he should get his ass humbled physically until he apologizes for his behavior ) , I also kinda understand why he couldn't even congratulate Tokido. Could you imagine the thoughts running through this lil'... runt's mind?

" I FAILED! "

" I LOST! "

" EVERYONE'S LAUGHING AT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

In a year's time, we'll hear about how one of the guy who encouraged the opposite of sportsmanship in competitive gaming on a grand scale was hunted down by his own stigma, and then... * motions pulling an Air noose * Heh. Shame.

He did congratulate him at the point where he lost. He was just in bits when the awards were being given out. People need to stop and think just how devistated he probably was.
Besides, no one knows what happens after the cameras stopped. The community isn't that big. Maybe he congratulated him again?
I dont know him, I dont like the teabagging but I think the vitrol at times in this thread is your typical armchair spectator and is uncalled for.

Y'know, even though Tokido's my favorite player and I was over the moon that he won, I still felt really bad for Punk. :(

I also find it interesting that Bonchan's fromer advice to Punk applies well here after EVO:

Edit: Gah, it won't let me link the video to the right spot. Just skip to about 47:00.

I gain no satisfaction in seeing him lose. I think he had an amazing run. It's impressive that he managed to get as far as he did in the tournament. It's tough to lose especially when he was so close to the end. I hope he bounces back and comes back even stronger in the next tournament he decides to compete it.
