Daigo sucks, it's not Ryu. The dude swapped characters and still he got ♥♥♥♥ on by the top Japanese pros. All the Daigo fans started crying so hard over Ryu but he is a viable character, Daigo just sucks. Is he top tier? No way, Ken and Akuma are arguably objectively better in almost every way, but you could say the same about other characters, you can use a top tier or you can use a mid tier like many others do and still work with it. He was top 5 last season and now he's mid tier, so it makes people think oh my god he sucks so bad, same thing with Nash and yet people proved he is still a strong contender in the right hands
He lost his stupid throw loop, a great normal, jab anti air, yet he still has a great parry tool for Cammy's kick and got a slight buff to his fireballs. You cannot expect to DP without using EX now, is it bull compared to people like Necalli who have better normals and damage? Absolutely, but Capcom decided to give the top tiers some stupid tools. So you can man up and take a character regardless of their tier or you can suck out and go play a top 5.
There are some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ characters in this game, people are trying to force Nash and Ryu into those spots, which is just dishonest
A bunch of match analysts mentoid this already and it was for a long time a discussion point on SRK.
Also Ryu can parry fireballs with his V-Skill and his Tatsus become projectile invincible after startup. Thats in SF since the implentation of invincible frames. Not to mentoi, it's possible to DP trough fireball, something that was very prominent in older fighters and has become more prominent with SFV again.

Look man. I get that you're a character loyalist. But if Ryu was so great why did Valle switch to Rashid? Why hasn't anyone won anything with Ryu since he was nerfed/
Also Valle was already maining Rashid in season 1, where Ryu was supposed to be TopTier.
Furthermore, Daigo sucks in SFV.
He just isn't as good as he once was compared to the other pros right now, he's an amazing player still yeah, but the proof is in the pudding, he still did nothing noteworthy in season 1 when Ryu was top 5. Most pros play top tier characters, I don't blame any of them from avoiding Ryu. But saying Ryu is trash tier because of nerfs to things he had that were just stupidly strong with very high damage, along with the honestly BS nerf to dps, and using Daigo as an example when he didn't do well with him even in season 1, is just dishonest. I'm not a character loyalist, especially for pros, pick what you need to pick. Mika still doing great, Chun doing pretty well, Nash still doing great, just not across the board like in S1.
As I said too Ryu is arguably the worst out of all the shotos if you want to include Chun and Nash as shotos along with Ken and Akuma. There's not much reason to pick him, but there's also not too many reasons to pick characters over the top tier ones currently either, because of how homogenized SF5's roster is, giving some characters too many top tier tools while others suffer.
You can say the same about much of the roster, there's very little reason to play anyone besides the top 5 unless you fit into their niche styles. Just that simple
They're not shotos though. Having a kick move, an AA move, and a fireball doesn't make a character a shoto. If it did half the cast would be shotos. It's the motions and uses. Laura has all of that but she's not a shoto.
At least thats what I do, and yes I know its hard to get rid of old patterns, but the first step is recognising them.
pz
I have to mixup my patterns more and have to do even more combos.
