ryu vs guile-guile wins more or ryu?
im learning the rope. pick up ryu and stick with him but seems guile is quite challenging for ryu. is that always like that? because of paper scissors stone things?

guile is a challenge to everyone, he is probably THE top tier by now, we hope he will have to tone down in next patch coming march

There is no real rock paper scissors in this game. some heros struggle more vs others but there are no real counter heroes. Ryu just got nerfed quite hard and guile buffed, thats all there is to it.

Fighting games are built around RPS mechanics. Block beats attack, throw beats block, attack beats throw.

And they are called characters in fighters.

oh boy, mr. smartypants being a smug. Ofc the mechanics work like that but that doesn't mean chars counter each other in a RPS fashion. Everybody can beat anybody else and in the end it highly depends of the skill of the player and not on the matchup unless ur amonst the top 0.001% of the top players who play almost perfectly. Even slow grapplers such as gief can lariat their way around projectiles, it's all about skill.

I agree that characters aren't supposed to hard counter other characters, but bad matchups exist. Dhalsim vs Gief is a 7:3 matchup in Sim's favor, for instance. That means the Gief has to significantly outperform the Dhalsim to get the win. That might be the worst matchup in the game, but it's looking like there are a number of 6:4 matchups.
