On the other hand, this game is much less combo dependent than past versions of SF.

If you look as youtube videos of past pro-games, besides certain characters, you'll notice that combos used by players tend to be much shorter than in the past.
That's not an excuse for not learning combos though, since every character has at least one or two combos to convert for big damage off stray hits. Plus comboing is pretty much the basics of every fighting game, although SF series traditionally relies a lot more on footsies and buttons compared to the others.

My friend, just put in 15 mins of practice before you play matches by following a guide like gief's gym. Use it as a warm-up every time you play. When you are done playing matches, pick something you did poorly in your matches and spend another 15 minutes in training mode and work on that. If you do this you will see progress every time you play. Combos will start to come without thinking and you can focus on other details.

Birdie and Gief have the most health, and both of them can deal a lot of damage without big combos.
Zangief's health = 1050
Birdie's = 1000

15 mins of practice before playing online? Not everyone has the time to waste 15 whole minutes on just practicing. Your acting like playing in fighting games should simulate like preparement time before work.

If you want to get better at this game then you have to put in practice or you will get beat down. Simple as that. It doesn't have to be 15 minutes, could be 3 or 5 or 30 minutes. The point is if you use your warm-up time properly you will not find it a waste when you start winning more matches. If you don't care about getting better or winning matches then don't practice.

Also I hope you get paid the 15 minutes you a preparing to work.
Fighting games are about self improvement, and that includes going into training mode to practice combos and figure out ways to deal with stuff.
If you dont like it there are other simpler games to play.
I will say this, if you can manage to backdash away from everything and when up close or in air have all of your moves always out-prioritize the other person's while getting some throws in, then yeah, you could win without using too much in the way of combos.

Seriousely, combos in SFV are incredibly easy. They often only take few normals into special and that's it. You cna learn them regardless of skill level with a bit of effort, aka sit down an afternoon and you get it.

"combo playstyle" is such a wierd description, people are simply capitalizing on their hits. How do they get their hits? By playing the game. They play neutral, anti air, they get (crossup) jump attack, a knockdown etc. From there they pressure you on wakeup by using normals, (tick)throws, crossups, if you start pressing buttons they'll use frametraps to counterhit you, if you start throw teching then they'll use throw baits etc.

My point is, regardless of the character you play, if you cannot optimize your hits you are not a threat to fight against. You yourself also have to apply offense eventually, if you don't knw how to do that you will never open people up and gain you wil not be a threat.

Zangief, Birdie, Alex have high health/stun, they get good damage of single normals/specials without relying on combos.

You can find combos yourself in training, set training dummy on "block after first hit", hen try and see what combos and what doesn't.

If you don't want to do that go here:

-Street Fighter Reddit
-Youtube

Look for "BnB's" which means "bread and butter" and comes down to a character their practical and basic combo's.
Zangief Alex.
Alex has combos but none of them are hard they sjut require timing and Reading your oponent.
Zangief's pretty setup reliant (which isn't strictly a combo, but...).

Birdie's health is down to 1025 after last patch.
Great site that is easy to navigate (also has a mobile app).

Has frame data, combos and the Gief's Gym lessons.
