Is it 'baby' or 'maybe'?
Okay, stupid question of the month:

The guy beside me, calling out the moves, will often say something that sounds like... "Long five... turning into left three... jump, baby."

Why is he saying 'jump baby'?

Is it 'jump baby' or 'jump maybe'? Honestly, neither one makes much sense. Jump baby sounds pretty silly to me, whereas jump maybe sounds like the guy has no idea what's actually coming up. "Jump, maybe... but honestly I'm not too sure about that... maybe there's a jump... maybe there isn't... who knows."

Where does this lingo come from?

Maybe, as in you might jump depending on your speed and angle.

The ‘Maybe’ pacenote is often used in the UK, when the routenote maker is providing one set of notes which are used by everyone in different cars and certain features will be more prominent the others.

For instance a small jump will be obvious in a WRC Polo at high speed compared to a 1960s Mini, so the jump is called ‘Maybe’ you have to judge it yourself with which car your using.
