Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era

Ubisoft connect
I cant support a game that has a addition to it that years later wont allow me to run my own game. If Ubisoft connect comes with Olden Era then I can't support it no matter how much I love the series. I know the franchise is well loved, I'm talking about myself. I cant run Heroes 6,7,8 or Legacy because of Ubisoft connect

To quote my fellow dev Clarrisa from another thread:
"The answer is: the decision was for no Ubisoft play for early access, however, full release is still a long ways to go, and it will be decided closer to the date. There is no yes or no right now, as those discussions didn't happen yet. Do not worry though, since we are listening to feedback and we know how important this is, we will of course try our best!"

Thanks Etharil, I appreciate that. I keep my fingers crossed.

So you're going to start selling the game before deciding if additional DRM will get added to the game at a later date?

That, is a mistake.

First please stop spamming the same sentences in 5 different topics, I ll be locking the other threads.

Second, as previously mentioned, these discussions did not, and most likely will not happen anytime soon. Ea will not come out for a few months, it's likely it will be in EA for a few years if we want to have a finalized version of the game out as full release. It's way too early to discuss anything as a lot can change within such a big timeframe.

However these problems and concerns from the community are known by everyone, and as mentioned before we will try our best to avoid a client, outside of steam, if possible.
While each of my responses in those threads were on the same topic, they were at least unique, certainly not the same spammed sentences.

I appreciate your point though, even if I don't appreciate how you worded it. I'll refrain from mentioning it anywhere else.

That said, this is very important to me (and clearly others) and I felt like it wasn't visible enough to potential customers and when it was brought up, it felt almost as if the issue wasn't being properly addressed.

Extra DRM not being added during Early Access is not the same as it not having it at all, and in a way it's worse than having it from day one as at least customers are aware of what they're buying in to, and not having it switched on them later on.

So please try to consider this before letting your frustrations on the topic show so evidently, remember those who buy games in early access buy it for what it will become, not what it is today.

The fact the early access length is potentially double what is mentioned on the store page according to your message here is also a worrying flag to me. If you think it could be as long as two years that really should be made clear on the product page.

For reference, this is what is shared on the store page to customers:

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“We plan for the Early Access phase to last around a year. This timeline allows us to implement your feedback, test the multiplayer features, and ensure a robust final release.”

Very different to "likely a few years".

This is not to berate or antagonise your team, it's just to share my concerns and assist in avoiding bad PR later on when you need the best player sentiment surrounding your game that we're all looking forward to.

Communication is key, and while you've been doing great answering customer queries so far, there are some key areas I think could be addressed and considered more carefully, despite how frustrating you may understandably find it.

A year is what we will be aiming for yes, but there is no telling exactly how long the EA will be. Depending on development and certain decisions as to what will be needed to add into the game, it could very well be longer.

As for the extra drm, as I previously said, I simply don't have an answer for you as of right now. Later on, hopefully closer to EA, we might have these answers for the community as well. But no promises, as it doesn't only depend on us. However, for EA and during EA it is confirmed there will be no ubi connect.

As far as the feedback goes, it is very much appreciated, and we are obviously taking it into consideration, this being one of the most asked question right now and biggest concern from the community, hence why I said we ll try our best.

Thanks Dev Clarrisa
Since you are in close proximity of your Superiors, hopefully you can relay the severity our our claims. Unless you guys are making a game for yourselves then if thats the case I dont see why we are even having this discussion, we the factor in you and your fellow Dev's & your superiors short & long term success can & is molding and shaping up real time right now & is closely monitored because of the enormous fan base, Heroes of Might and Magic
has attained. It's success is duel part you Dev,s making a great game & we spending hard earned money buying the product. Don't we have a voice and a say so? I mean this is a partnership, we want a good game, you gonna make sure of it I have no doubt & your superiors want to make money. But at the end of the day "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is insanity" (Albert Einstein).
Everyone have a Happy New Year
Best Regard's Stan
ill wait to see on uplay
Sadly if this does end up with Uplay I don't think I can support. I have played every HOMM game that has come out and bought in multiple versions, CE's, etc. My issue is with Uplay. I like to play games on Steam for the ease as that is where most of my games I play are on. But with Uplay not supporting the earlier games I am unable to play games I paid for and now had to buy again on GOG as I can still play them their.

Examples are 5, 6 and 7. I am unable to play and tried the several solutions posted and never got them working. Uplay is just a bad idea and not supported the way it should be. I'm hopeful this game will be what we all hope for and will keep to a simple DRM solution that will allow us to play in the future and not have another broken game down the road.
Stan Jan 5 @ 1:12pm
Bingo.
Liothe Jan 7 @ 8:04pm
Honestly, much as I hate DRM, that's not even my main reason for wanting UPlay left out of this--we have literally had functionality ripped away from games with HoMM 5, 6, and 7, at this point, and while that may currently be legal, it's highly anti-consumer, and Ubisoft knows it. I want this game to be a success, but I'd be a fool to commit to it without assurances it won't be similarly broken down the line just to sate some corporate robots who just see us as prey.
