I like gameplay and immserive UI of gta more, but kung fu, and some unique features of SD and whole setting and atmosphere and story and music makes Speeping Dog something that makes it different from GTA and not just a generic clone... before gta v was released on pc i spent my time playing this game and i really enjoyed it, and funny thing - initially it was called True Crime Honk Kong - and i played previous true crime games and i did not really liked them as their gameplay was not as fun and well designed as GTA... but back in GTA VC - SA times True Crime was considered to be biggest rival of GTA so GTA SA has some easter egg that mocking True Crime by calling it TRUE GRIME and saying something like - get rid of old rubish, which was referenced to fact that True Crime was released between VC and SA and sort filled anticipation of GTA fans for while, but was not as good and fun as GTA.

It kinda funny, but True Crime NY was sort of response to Rockstar and SA and 3 at the same time, it was about same city as GTA 3 but it was about black gangstas like SA, and yet it has more serious story of undercover cop (that the key point of series, its always about undercover cop and minor enticity who entering etnical gang).

TCNY was actually good... except for shooting mechanics and that ugly huge UI and crosshair that covered like entire screen, it killed a lot of immersion (and Sleeping Dogs still suffering from similar issue), also i dont know how to explain it, but while SA looked alive, with worse graphics, somehow TCNY looked dead, despite better graphics, maybe it was bad design of buildings that did not look too realised and looked more like generic repetitive boxes while gta 3-sa used photo textures to make city look more natural and alive, also maybe it was the way AI acted. or just color mood of game, it just felt boring and depressive.

ALso, i dont remember if NY had kung fu, in that departmen 1st one was better and more similar to speeping dogs.

Btw i just looked at TC LA and well it does not look as bad as i remember it in terms of gamplay, but graphics look weird, toyish, and remind graphics if enter the matrix (you know that game that had lod bug which caused wheels of cars to look like squares) it even has some stealth and max payne elements... but i remember now why i hate it and never finished, back than i did not have gamepad and played it with keyboard and mouse and it was so poorly implemented, i just rage quit it, and one more reason i never like series, which i remember now - handling of cars, it just was not fun o realistic, sleeping dogs also suffering from same issue but much better than older games in series.

If you wonder why series changed name - craptivision canceled True Crime Honk Kong and closed the studio, somehow they managed to have a deal that allowed studio to go indie and find other publisher and finish game, but they have no rights for true crime franchise so they removed all references to it and changed name, as far as i remember development news Wei Sheng supposed to be same character as we saw in 1st True Crime game and it was a direct sequel to it... so if you wonder about Wei Sheng backstory of working in USA, just look at True Crime story and imagine it was wei sheng.... while references was removed and names changed cory of story still remained tied to 1st True Crime as its prequel.

What a memories... this also reminds me that i never finished True Crime 1-2, Scarface (vice city wannabe), Driver 3 and Driver Parallel Lines... and few more GTA like game of that era (besides mafia) that was quite good but not as good as GTA. I have to find time and replay them... anyone remember more games like gta of that era that was released on PC or did not look like trash on PC and would not hurt eyes if played in emulator?

If that's your wish then yes. Although it's not advised if you want a higher score for the mission. Freeride? Do as you please. Just don't kill the pork buns guy. Savageness starts there.

can you play this game and not feel like a piece of ♥♥♥♥ . can any honor be maintained ? can i be proud of what ive done in game ? can the good guys win and still look themselves in the mirror ? i don't mind playing a gritty cop fighting bad guys, but i don't want to play a gang thug hurting good innocent people ? thank you.

I mean, you can't kill anyone in the real life, but you can kill bunch of people by Kung fu stuff and you can't get arrested (lol you can just cuff the police)
