First you'll have to get used to the Trance/Meatspace and Wetware mechanic with one of the characters and the GUI itself. It's a really nice thing though. You'll also have ingame emails that you can check up on and you can make some calls.
If you really get stuck and you are able to swallow your pride, you could always have a look at some walkthrough or ask for hints on the forum. It's also nice that (though rarely) there is more than just one way to solve a puzzle.
Personally, I think the story is more than just worth the trouble you might encounter with the puzzles. Really. Loved it.
EDIT:
There's a demo of the game on steam, which is the beginning of the game (scene 1&2). So just go get the demo and see how well you do with the first puzzle, which really is not the easiest of the game, I think. Keep in mind though that you'll eventually get better when you keep going. Also the second site already is easier.
Thanks for replying, didn't notice the demo, I'll look at it.
Essentially at one point, you need to block the connection to a certain country to kick players from a server. You can at that point make a pretty good guess where these players are from. However, if you pick correctly, they are still on the server, which makes you assume you guessed wrong. What you need to do is join the server yourself to trgger a scene with them getting kicked.
You don't have to be bad at puzzles to find some of the puzzles in Technobabylon to be tough to figure out.
I've been playing adventure games since the Apple II days and I'm reasonably good at solving the puzzles. I found the first half of Technobabylon to be easy, mostly because there aren't that many puzzles.
The second half was a different story. Lots more puzzles and some of them have very unlikely solutions. Pixel hunting becomes more of an issue as well. I don't mind getting stuck on a puzzle if when I eventually find the solution I think "of course, that makes sense". Too many times in Technobabylon I was thinking "what the heck?".
SInce I play adventure games for the puzzles Technobabylon was a big disapointment for me.
