It's easy to get into, fun to look at, and when you're ready for a serious turn-based game, skip the Campaign Series (which dates from the 'nineties, with graphics to match) and take a look at Tiller's Panzer Campaigns, Panzer Battles, or Squad Battles.
Tiller's more accomplished games will never appear on Steam because he only sells Matrix his outmoded series, so if you want to see what they're like you'll have to get them from JTS or HPS direct.
In a quick response to the AI. hotspur59 mentioned the Talon soft versions and that was back in the 90's. Its had several patches over the past decade so I would be weary of comments based on the Talonsoft versions.
Anyway, regardless of what you choose they are both great games and you should enjoy both.
All that said am I saying the AI is the best out there? Not a chance, but it is loads better than it was back then. If you haven't checked it out in ages you might want to. To get all the games and expansions in 1 package for $30 is a pretty good deal.

I'm glad to hear your enjoying it. Its always one of my "go to" games over the years. Now if only Steel Panthers aged this well.....
