As for panning out, yes its easy to do by simply twaeking a couple of lines of code.
You can also adjust the camera angle.
And don't forget there's also a great random mission generator in the game.
Your best bet is to check out the BA2 forum at Slitherine where there are tutorials and screenshots and advice and stuff-
http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=221
The editor is dead easy, just click on various items by trial and error, that's how i learnt..:)
And check this kool thread about camera angles-
http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=311&p=929199#p929199
Like I said, just go to the Slitherine BA2 forum because its a proper forum with loads of tutorial screenshots and stuff, and if you ask questions there the community hotshots will usually answer...:)
PS- I don't think there is an Editor manual, so we have to learn by trial and error, but I don't use the editor much anyway because I prefer the random mission generator which automatically creates a brandnew map each game.
