Bungie has been historically woke, even before it was trendy, if anything it's par for course, but it doesn't really matter in their settings. It's not like they're building up this current time military grungesque shooter. There's Tarkov for that.

It didn't matter with Destiny, no one cared for it. People who did care for it liked it, people who didn't didn't care about it. Simple as. If the game is good the game is good, no amount of woke this woke that will change that.

We aren't in the destiny years any longer, there has been a clear cultural shift and woke slop is no longer tolerated unless it comes with an amazing game.

Even important IPs like Assassin's Creed and Dragon Age ended up falling flat due to the woke bs.

Are the androids looking androgynous really that big of a deal? They're for all we know a one-size fits all neural link of sorts between the actual pilot and the machine. Much like a plain white t-shirt you, I or your mum might wear, they're likely a one-size fits all.

I'm not seeing the wokeness angle here. AC and DA games haven't been good for ages, if the games were actually good, they wouldn't have failed because more often than not people can look past the story and visuals if the game's good. I mean, just look at Elden Ring, you could argue that the Marika situation was 'woke' because of the way that character worked, never heard anyone complain about that even though it was a major plot point, why? Because the people liked the game and ignored whatever they didn't like.

Destiny is still somewhat relevant and they're still putting their 'woke' stories into the game and ultimately no one cares as long as the raids are good. Truth be told these forums squabbles are nothing more but a microcosm of a bigger issue in online culture, which is that nearly everyone is a massive reactionary slop enjoyer with no capability for nuanced thinking.

When you really contextualize the world in which Marathon is happening. Do I think the game will be good though? Hell no, it'll be ♥♥♥♥ most likely.

Yeeeah, but "woke" back in the 90s and early 2000s actually meant being for freedom, with the huge exception of being anti-second amendment. Back then "woke" just meant interracial couples and gay couples, but still an emphasis on making a good product. Now "woke" means you're a Nazi if you question the idea of kids that haven't even gone through puberty getting a sex change operation. Pretty stark difference. EDIT: Forgot to add "woke" back then meant making attractive characters that upset the soccer mom and Christians groups, now it means making ugly characters to make the blue haired people feel better about being ugly.

People are mostly complaining about it being an extraction shooter instead of something in style of old Marathon games.

Frankly, I think this is a bastardization of the terminally online.

Just take a look at facebook these days. It's a literal racist cesspool, and all people need to do is go outside and meet people and talk to them. It's really not that hard to find a common ground and figure out that we're all in many ways alike despite our disagreements. The whole gender swap angle is massively overblown and I reckon no sensible person vouches for these things. Problem is, a lot of people never had any kind of exposure to these fringe groups, it's no different than how punk/metal folks were ostracized in 80s/90s by massive media and religious entities.

You have to take literally everything you see online with a grain of salt, people are mad and outraged over things that in reality aren't a thing. Nutjobs will always be nutjobs and there always is a line someone is willing to cross, that doesn't necessarily mean the entire group thinks that way.

Do you want my honest opinion? 10 years ago it wouldn't have been a big deal at all, in fact most people (probably myself included) wouldn't had cared.

But we are no longer at 10 years ago, we are in a world where AAA western companies refused to make a sexy female character for what now, more than 5 years (if you can recall a sexy female character like Tifa or Eve in a AAA game made in west in the last few years let me know because i clearly missed it)? Yes, it is a big deal.

Do you know why games with "fanservice" are either popular or at least pick up the interest of the players even if the game is not that great? It's because we are at the point where sexy female character = not woke so people will naturally give it a fair chance. The opposite is also true, androgynous characters = probable woke and people are instantly turned off.

Its amazing how only one game like Lords of the fallen went against this and actually was rewarded...like this stuff...is all a choice? That theres actually nothing for them to fear by just having an open dialouge as we originally wanted? No thats crazy...the LOTF devs just got lucky...no way in hell thats the case...
