The Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Online

Should I play this again?
So here's the deal. I haven't played since Morrowind expansion released, and I loved it back then, just didn't find the time to play, now with all the nostalgia coming back with the Elder Scrolls franchise in general and also that MMO itch that needs to be scratched, I'm asking this question. Now, if I was to come back after a long hiatus what do I need to get to get the complete feel and content of the game itself? Thank you guys in advance!

Out of every mmo i played, i recommend ff14, though even that game has issues just not as many as ESO.

Why ff14 instead of ESO:
- More rewarding to play (lots of in-game rewards in ff14 rather than ESO where they expect you to purchase everything from the cash shop)
- More players
- Better graphics imo
- Better music
- More content

Why ESO over ff14:
- Less structured so you can roam freely
- Housing is better in some ways but worse in others

FF14 has a subscription required to play but the game gives you much more for the subscription than ESO gives. There are over 200 mounts and 400 pets you can earn in ff14. In ESO there are like under 10 mounts and under 10 pets you can earn without paying money and outside of events. A subscription is also pretty much required in eso if you plan to do any crafting.

Overall, FF14 is not designed to be worse intentionally in order to make people spend more money, while ESO is. ESO is a worse game on purpose to take money from people.

ESO is in a weird position right now.

On one hand, it is full of obvious monetisation and predatory practices to get you to spend your money. Full of a terrible development team and moderation team, and definitely not worth subbing (but you will suffer without the craft bag).

On the other, it's a "decent" MMO for what it is, but mostly held back by an inept team that hasn't learned anything over the past 10 years.

Really hard to say yes, so I will say no.

ff14 is basically better at everything except for combat and addons. Maybe combat is fun at 90+
both games have good music but ff14 really nails it, huge amount of music + variety
graphics are better yeah, if you play with reshade its even better
for sure way more players

If you already own it, you might as well boot it up and see. It is mostly the same as it was before, minus more content, and is generally better now than it was back then.

You might be right, but still ESO is kinda the one I never dwelled into that much to even try it out for reals, while FF14 I did play through to level 55, the free part.

I like the freedom of homes and Companions, that's what is keeping me playing ESO. As long as I'm doing things solo with my dress up pet by my side, I can play whichever way I want. I play more like a Feral Druid on WoW so my combat playstyle is more comfortable to me. FF14 2.5 seconds Global CD is what kills me waiting to do something, WoW is 1.5 seconds and ESO is 1 second with 0.7 for light attacking. The latter two are more my style, I really hated Dragonflight and War Within is more of the same, so I'm here in ESO.

if you hate high gcd in ff14 (which is lower) then you also should hate TESO for it being too casual now? the game is already easy mode, will be 2 times easier with subclassing

Wow seems like in a really bad state.

Since you already have the game, you can come back and see if it's better. Soon they will have "subclassing" which will no doubt ultimately lead to nerfs, though it can "offer" more build variability.

There won't be much more variability because there aren't enough skill slots, so people will just move to the most dense stat/ability skill lines (like NB).

The bigger issue is that you literally get less for your money, even the achievements no longer give costumers or cosmetics -- it's mostly in the crown store now.

Monetisation is pretty bad in the game right now, and every decision they are making is jut for more money, not to benefit the players in the slightest.

Subclassing for example, needs more skill points than you normal skill lines. Think you will skip it? No you won't , because ZOS is nerfing everyone that won't be subclassing...

Feels like it has more variety too.

No MMO ever had something like that, and even in most singleplayer games subclassing is pretty tedious, unless done properly, and for that you usually need a lot of time and research for.

runes of magic, archeage, kinda mortal online 1/2, other games i dont remember
subclassing wont add any variety, people will just stick to same meta

I've tried FF14 multiple times, still on the free trial. I've restarted 5 times and my highest level was 17 before I'm bored out of my mind. There's not enough skills early on and way too many cinematic / cut scenes. I don't care about the easy difficulty of ESO, I'm not meta / cookie cutter builds, I'm more theme based even if it does crap damage.

I got 40 characters on ESO, 56 characters on WoW, and alternate between the two games.

if you dont like story/cutscenes in a story game then just buy skip to dawntrail idk
all dd builds have nearly same gameplay experience, just different skills that do different damage, thats it
sad to hear you have 40 chars in ESO, but could be worse
