ESO in 2025; is it worth it?
I’ve been very bored lately and been looking into starting an MMO since there really isn’t any new ones so I was debating on starting this, is it worth it and better then it was at launch? Is the game alive and well?

way better than on launch but imo its going downhill now
if you want to do quests only then its fine, if you want to do pve it got way easier than before because devs are aimed at casuals now
pvp was always bad and about meta
judging by steamcharts its lost around 50% players in 4 years so in general its semi alive

you still might enjoy it since you dont know how pve was before so you cant compare
just note that they're adding subclassing soon which imo will just kill class diversity and most people will stick to 1 skill line combo meta
new dungeons are way easier than previous ones but still there are hard dlc dungeons (hardmode ofc), some trials are also ok

subclassing is basically same gameplay as before but increase your total dps by 50%, make tanks even more invincible and so on

Hmm ok and is it possible to f2p or do you recommend eso plus to get all dlc?

f2p (vanilla) dungeons/trials are way too easy if you're into pve, you can basically solo all vanilla dungeons on hardmode on your regular dd build
as usual dlc content contains meta sets while vanilla sets are mostly useless
i would get eso+ only after you get familiar with the game, finished couple of hardmode vanilla dungeons, and if you like it then you can get eso+. For dlc hardmodes its better to find premades since doing it with complete randoms will be time wasting

first get to 160cp, lvl up your character to 50, then lvl up your "account level" to 160 (will be fast), and 160cp your gear stop losing stats, some veteran dlc dungeons require 300cp. Get familiar with the game first then decide if u wanna get eso+. There is some content pass coming along with eso+ so not sure

i described some in 1st post
devs were always greedy and crown store is full of scam offers
balancing was always bad and with subclassing imo it will be even worse
game became way easier than it was before
not fixing 10 yr old bugs and etc. etc.
How subclassing be bad for balance? If something is OP just take it. That helps balancing and not brakes it even more.

Just ignore all the negative stuff alf says - he's mad at ESO right now. It'll pass, he'll be back, but for now, he's upset at them and can't see anything nice about them.

He does say constructive stuff too, you can listen to that.

I figure if you are still here (eso steam forums), you'll probably come back (to ESO). If you really wanted to cut ties with this game, you would have left these forums and not looked back, but you're on the forums thinking about it, so you'll probably come back when you get over your anger.

PS: if you want a guild, I got a nice casual one with some good people. You'd be welcome.
