The Elder Scrolls Online

What's better? ESO or Warframe?
Which of these two MMO RPGs should I pour my time into and why?

Warframe isn't an mmorpg.

Warframe is under the categories of "Massively Multiplayer & Acion RPG" on Steam.
ESO is under the category of "MMORPG" (Massive Multiplayer online RPG).
So yes it is.

well but in reality warframe doesnt have more than 4 player mode, so calling it massively multiplayer sounds like a big liar

Maybe but, this depends on your definition of MMORPG. i'm going by what steam says and the similarities between the two games. They are both grindy, story oriented, online only rpg games that have in depth build variety, guilds, dungeon-like missions that drop specific gear, trash pvp, etc..

Not being able to do missions/quests with more than 4 players does not rule it out from being mmorpg. Warframe has every other feature you would expect from an mmorpg.

But back to my original question.. which game is more worth spending my time on in your opinion?

It's not 'massively' multiplayer, regardless of what steam says. It's 4-player coop. It's as much an MMORPG as Monster Hunter or Helldivers 2.

edit: Also, I don't actually see anything listing Warframe as 'massively multiplayer'. That genre tag is on ESO(Action, Adventure, Massively Multiplayer, RPG), but Warframe's genre tags are "Action, RPG, Free To Play". It's not in the main steam user tags for warframe either.

Sure its 4 player maximum while doing missions (Way more when in relays or planet hubs) but, this doesn't mean its not comparable to ESO in almost every other way. That one difference doesn't make up for the dozens of similarities.
Warframe is definitely more comparable to ESO than to Monster Hunter or Helldivers 2.

But back to my original question.. which game is more worth spending my time grinding on in your opinion?

It matters because it's a looter shooter. It compares closer to stuff like Destiny or even Borderlands than it does to ESO. They're both completely different games, with completely different appeals, aesthetics, gameplay, and progression. They're both 'worth' spending time on for completely different reasons that don't really compete with each other at all.

Warframe is free to start, at least, so you can just try it out and see if you like it. ESO you have to buy the base game.

I've played both a good amount but I only have time for one. I made this discussion post in hopes for some insight. I'm thinking the same thing though. I'm probably going to stick with Warframe since it is free, and seems to offer more & higher quality/dynamic content than ESO.

It depends on what you're after. If you want the MMORPG package, with things like large-scale PVP, dungeons/raids, etc, warframe doesn't offer any of those MMORPG niches. But ESO is a lot more stingy than Warframe is, which is kinda crazy considering that warframe is clearly a freemium game, while ESO wants you to buy the game, and the DLCs, and a subscription, and then has freemium gimmicks on top of that anyways.

well i played both games for more than 1k hours, but for me ESO has more contents, more freedom, and more to do than warframe, in warframe you can barely do anything in their open world maps and warframe is more like fast paced action and less thinking where you dont need to have perfect team combination to run a dungeon, you can go all Volt on the hardest endgame contents and can still complete it easily as long as all four players are vets, in ESO however you need a evey specific role for each player to run endgame contents properly.

If you care about the story, Warframe has more straightforward storylines while in ESO u need a PhD in History college to understand the complete lore.

in terms of grinding ESO is a lot harder to grind for things, in Warframe you can just literally find a right camping spot and press 1 button for 2 hours.

also if u want to fully experience ESO you need ESO+ which is kinda mandatory if you dont want to check your inventory eveytime you finish a dungeon or trial because ZOS is a greedy company, so greedy you need 1k crowns just to change your hair :D

in a nutshell some big difference between both games are:
ESO : more frustating on endgame contents, more freedom, more open world area, requires more teamwork, requires more strategy. will force you to spend more money to do more contents.
Warframe : less frustrating (can just run through ur enemies with Gauss or Volt), more character customization, doesnt really require a solid teamwork, more face-paced, only the cosmetics are paid.
