Can't open launcher, updating loop
Tried opening the game this morning and it wont work.
Every time I launch it, the launcher opens, downloads an update, and closes.
And it does this every time I open it.
Any ideas/fixes?

the response I got from support was that my pc (after over 4000hrs of play) isn't compatible with the game. LOL

Top-tier coding :steamfacepalm:
Please demand the fix and update us on results. They are basically blaming their incompetence on users.
Everyone should probably submit a ticket for them to do something about it.

Launcher is updating itself and then shutting down. And this makes game imposible to start.

What worked for me may work for you too. Cut your internet connection, start launcher while offline. And when launcher at loading connect internet again.

This should work until ZOS patch the problem.

This worked for me, thanks.... Just had to be patient a bit after turning WiFi back on (maybe a min or less).

The problem is you have to do it everytime. What it does is it's probably bypassing the update.

In other words, this is just a workaround not fix. People should still submit their tickets.

THREE HOURS of trying to fix the problem and I've finally got the game to open. A random Reddit user suggested this and it worked (no idea how) -

Turn your wifi off. Open ESO and the launcher will open but just say 'loading' as there's no internet. Then when the launcher has opened, turn the wifi back on.

Idk how it worked but it did :')

I don't have wifi but a eathernetcabel, but this worked for me aswell.
unplugged the cabel from my computer, started the game and got the load screen, waited roughly 30 sec and put the plug in and it instantly accepted the update.
Game had a random crash after selecting my character but when i reloaded the game after the crash all was fine.

EDIT:
As someone else stated allready, this needs to be done every time anew when starting the game.. so no fix.
But you will get in the game.

For anyone interested, this is default helpdesk response:

Greetings!

Thank you for contacting The Elder Scrolls Online Team.

When you select "Play" in Steam or Epic and it starts the "update," there is another window that pops up quickly that handles certain update tasks before the main launcher opens. This window is usually responsible for downloading and applying updates. If you do not see that window or you are getting stuck in a loop, proceed to the troubleshooting below, in order.

Check which Graphics Card is being used

Sometimes, an update to your drivers may indirectly result in your primary card not being set as your primary. Check your system and try the game again once you have ensured it is set.
See "How do I force my system to recognize my primary GPU? for instructions on how to do this step.

Check for Pending Updates on Steam

On Steam, check under your "Manage Downloads" section for "Steam Common Redistributables"
Prompt that to install and then try launcher ESO again

Delete the ProgramData Folder:

Navigate to the ESO launcher directory and Delete the ProgramData folder
For Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\Launcher
For Epic Games: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\TheElderScrollsOnline\Launcher
Restart ESO from Steam and/or Epic and try again
If this does not work, proceed to deleting the entire ESO Launcher folder

Delete the ESO Launcher Folder

Navigate to the ESO Launcher directory on your computer and delete the Launcher folder.
If you are concerned of deleting something important, you can cut/paste this folder to your desktop instead.
This folder is located by default in the following directories:
For Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\Launcher
For Epic Games: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\TheElderScrollsOnline\Launcher
Mac: Open Finder, go to Applications, and then look for and delete the Zenimax Online folder.
The Launcher folder will be under the main ZOS folder.

Run the Launcher as Administrator

Locate the file "Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe" and Right Click on it and select "Run as Adminstrator"
You can find this file in the following directories by default:
Steam: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Zenimax
Epic: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\TheElderScrollsOnline

Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings

Ensure that the ESO launcher and game files are allowed through your firewall and antivirus software.
Add exceptions for the following files:
Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe (located in the launcher directory)
eso64.exe (located in the game client directory)
