The Elder Scrolls Online

Login Information Incorrect? ( + Launcher Repair info added)
With ESO going on sale this week, I have been noticing a lot of new players and thus more people having this same old issue. So I decided to make this thread to help those people that actually read the forums before posting. Please leave a comment if this helped. As ZOS tends to ignore the Steam forums and I'm not a mod, leaving a quick comment will help keep this discussion visible. Lets bump it up for the next little while and a thank you for reading the discussions and not spamming duplicates.

Login Information Incorrect
Q: When I try to login to The Elder Scrolls online, in-game, it says the login information is incorrect. I know this isn't the case as I am able to login to the website. For some reason I can't log into the game, please help.

A: Make sure you redeem the Steam Key on the ESO Account Page. If you need further help, follow these 4 steps. If you have done this already and think you have a bad Key see the note at the bottom:

Step 1 - Go to the ESO Account Page[account.elderscrollsonline.com] and login to your account. Notice on the right side of the page there is an option to redeem a key.

Step 2 - Open your Steam Library and right click on the The Elder Scrolls Online game and click View CD Key. Copy the key. (Highlight and right click copy or Copy to Clipboard if that option is available)

Step 3 - Go back to the ESO account page. (Should still be open from step 1) and paste the key into the Redeem Key field. When you click ok, the version of the game you purchased should appear on the right side of the page. Should look something like this

Step 4 - Now try logging into the game.

Bad Key
If you are still having issues or think you have been given a bad key, please contact Steam Support.

*Note: If you think you have a bad key > when you submit a support ticket to Steam make sure to specify that this is a Steam Only Issue! DO NOT include The Elder Scrolls Online in your support ticket. The reason for this is, Steam will not even look at the ticket and will refer you to ESO Support. ESO support will tell you that this is a Steam issue, which is the truth, and will send you back to Steam Support. Steam supplied the Key so Steam needs to fix the issue, plain and simple.

Again, thank you to the ones that are actually reading this and please leave a comment to bump this up.

Edit ** I also wanted to add something for those that are on the fence about ESO.

Not Sure If You Will Like ESO?
Please note that Steam will log time in game while you are installing patches Via the ESO Launcher. To avoid this eating up your play time close down the window and locate the file on your computer. My file path for example is D:Steam\SteamApps\common\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client. Once you find the launcher, right click on it and select create shortcut. Then it's just a matter of dragging the shortcut to your desktop.

Use the ESO shortcut on your desktop to open the ESO Launcher and update your game without the worry of time logging in the Steam App.

Second Edit *** Last one I hope. Wanted to add something for those that may have trouble with the launcher.

ESO Needs Repair
Do Not, I repeat, DO NOT use the Steam App to Verify the Game Cache. I can't stress this enough, JUST DON'T! Steam will, 100% of the time, identify a ton of issues and delete all local content and redownload the game. If you don't mind looking at a loading screen for hours or, gods forbid, days on end then by all means go ahead. For those of us that want to actually play the game follow These Steps.[help.elderscrollsonline.com]

I just completed installing and patching last night, so I haven't had a chance to play yet.

But, thank you very much for taking the initiative to post this login help information. It's great to see users that want to help others.

It's too bad that the developers ignore the Steam forums. That is a major negative in my opinion, and just plain rude to their customers.

Very rude...they pop in once in a blue moon but usually offer little in the way of help to anyone and then they disappear again like a leaf on the wind.

Why isn't this told to us when we purchase the game?

I just bought it and went thru the motions and it never told me to redeem my steam key.

Thanks for this though.

Your Welcome and I have no clue why this isn't apart of the download process. It makes too much sense maybe.
