[Guide]How to properly install the Steam version of the game.
A lot of people are having problems with the Steam version, I had too, but now I know how this thing works.

Steam only download the Setup Files, it won't install the game.
Make sure to create a Shortcut when you download your game through Steam, when the download finish, open the game through the shortcut you made on your Desktop, it will open the Launcher and it will install the game (for some reason when you try to open the launcher to install the game through the "play" button on Steam Library, it doesn't work).

Steam only holds the Client of the game, not the patches, after installed, the game will download something like 8GB of patches through the TESO Launcher, if you see 36GB on the launcher, relax, it isn't downloading the whole game again, it is extracting the files, if you check the "download speed" it will be way higher than your internet speed. After patched you can run the game through steam normally (even through the "play" button on Steam Library).

THIS IS FOR PEOPLE WHO WILL PLAY ON THE EUROPE SERVER

Steam ATM ONLY download the NA Client, NOT THE EUROPE (I hope they change it in the future), if you chose the "Europe Megaserver" when you installed the game, the Launcher will download the WHOLE CLIENT again, since both clients are the same (or at least it should be), after you download the Client through Steam and Install it through the launcher do this to avoid downloading the whole thing again:

- Close the Launcher.
- Close Steam to make sure nothing weird will happen.
- On the "steamapps\common\Zenimax Online" folder, delete the "The Elder Scrolls Online EU" folder that the Launcher created.
- Rename the "The Elder Scrolls Online" folder that Steam downloaded/installed to "The Elder Scrolls Online EU".
- Open Steam again and open the Launcher, it will download only the patches.

Thank you. I've just bought the game and only downloading 40 gb made me happy. This is really usefull. But if there is something different between the clients will it automaticly patch that part to fix it?

I am not sure, but I was checking on Reddit and a lot of people used that "fix" to play on EU without downloading everything again.
I don't think there is any difference between them, since both are the same game and both english (I think if you pick other language it will download a language pack).

or you can just just cancel the download and take your cdkey over to the eso website get an account and redeem it there, much more download speed than on steem for some reason and will also save you the other various problems people get with steam launcher on this game

Or this.

But for me, Steam downloaded the game way faster than the Bethesda Launcher.
And well, I like Steam tracking my hours played.

I'm 1 hour away from completing my download. Will use your guide to make things smooth for me. Thanks!

Everytime I use the shortcut on my desktop, it goes to 100% then....nothing. It does not want to launch.

There is two shortcuts IIRC, one is "The Elder Scrolls Online" and the other is "The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited" (I guess), I don't remember which one is to install the game after downloading it from Steam, but I THINK it's the "The Elder Scrolls Online", not the Tamriel Unlimited one.

Mine actually worked fine and is currently installing correct as the EU megaserver. Not having to dl anything over again.

My other problem is my AVG and at 99% that cs.steampowered.com is a virus. so I disable to finish but still blocks it. I'll never be able to download this game.

I only see the one The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. the other one is not there.

Did you fixed it?
If not, go to your Steam Library, right click on TESO and click to create a Shortcut on your desktop, then try to open it.
And make sure the game will be installed on Steamapps folder.

The game installs on steamapps folder but here´s the thing.
When I downloaded TESO through steam, I start the installation with the
shortcut on the desktop. (Only one shortcut at this moment)
Then steam shows me the cd-key... so I can choose between copy the cd-key
or play...
I chose play and the game start to install... It feels like it going through the steam client.. should it?

Then the game installs at Steam/steamapps/common/Zenimax Online/ The Elderscrolls Online EU.

But if I do as you sad aKu and delete that folder after installation, then i delete everything i installed, I can change the name on the other folder that steam made but it only holds a map named contents..

I´m a little bit confused....

Unless they changed it, Steam only downloads the NA Client of the game and not the EU Client, that is why I said to delete the EU Folder that the Launcher creates AFTER the game is already installed and rename the NA folder ("The Elder Scrolls Online" to "The Elder Scrolls Online EU"), since on your SteamApps follder will have two folders "The Elder Scrolls Online" with something like 35GB of files and another "The Elder Scrolls Online EU" with some files that probably the launcher downloaded after the install.
