The Elder Scrolls Online

Frequent crashes after recent update.
I'm hoping someone here can help. I am running an RTX 4080 Founders Edition with a Ryzen 9 5950X with 32GB of RAM if you need any other info on specs or anything feel free to ask.. I highly doubt this is a hardware issue.

I am getting 'eso has stopped working' within 5-15 minutes of launching the game. I have attempted to do a complete reinstall of windows with drive formatting, uninstall and reinstall eso, even attempted to uninstall and reinstall eso on a separate nvme drive and use the games launcher repair. I am unsure what else to do.. I have never had any issues at all with ESO in many years of playing but now suddenly I get crashes within minutes of launching the game. If anyone has any idea what I can do I'd greatly appreciate the help.

I have a 3060ti and have no issues. my win 11 system received two windows updates and the nvidia 555.82 update in the last week. might be one of them if you got those. just a guess with no error msgs but try rolling back the nvidia update if you got it.

It's been the same for me and I have very similar specs to yours (4080, Ryzen 7 7700x, 32 GB RAM). Game would never crash prior to about a week ago and then all of a sudden just random crashes ranging from a few minutes to tens of minutes even if I was just standing still in a low traffic area. I also went through all the same steps you tried (complete Windows and game reinstall) and nothing has seemed to solve it completely. Even tried reverting to old drivers but that didn't solve it either.

I did end up lowering shadows from ultra to high and dropping the view distance down a bit and that was letting me play for longer. Think I got up to just over an hour without any crashes but they still seem to be randomly happening. You aren't alone in having crashing issues all of sudden.

seems to have worked for me,, saw your post and remembered it'd been a while since I updated my video driver.. saw it was a few updates behind, upgrade it and the game loaded with almost no problem.. Just have to reset my graphical settings in game..

nothing wrong with your system, its your local network problem. happened to me before but after clean up all the junk from local network its ok now, no more drop fps and latency, its very stable

Windows 11 is doing many more things in the background now, like telemetry on steroids.
There is a huge spike in ethernet outbound when collected data is sent every cycle.
Add that to bugs with our patches, outdated drivers, can be paradise for awhile.
Open your GPU app at desktop idle, not thru the task manager, see if things are 'normal', every so often....

Clean junk from local network? What is that?

go to folder
Documents\ElderScrolls Online\live
delete the usersettings.txt file
then try the game again

might not be of any help but there are some logs in folders

Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\logs
...\steam\steamapps\common\zenimax online\launcher
...\steam\steamapps\common\zenimax online\logs

one of them might have something useful.

check windows event viewer and also windows reliability history.
might be a game crash event or system related problems.
an error msg would help

Figured I'd add another reply since I seem to have solved my crashing problem. Turns out the issue was XMP in my BIOS. Despite having no issue with it for the past year I guess a recent windows update must have made it unstable. Since turning it off I've been able to play on max settings without any crashes.
