Both Rift and SWTOR are f2p now.
That doesn't prove anything, as the mounts being behind a collectors edtion was not the reason they went F2P.
Yeah, epic garbage is still garbage. Definately is not WoW, since you know, WoW was successful at some point and most of us saw through this crappy effort during Beta. Glad I waited for the Beta invite instead of thinking I had to pre-order it.
i wouldn't recommend the game. despite solid combat and a good class system, it has a substantial grind, it's buggy, and the leveling is very repetitive. also for anyone looking for anything remotely resembling an elder scrolls experience, definitely stay away. it is nothing like a sandbox game.
They are adding a King of the Hill Style Mode, if you watched todays twitch stream.
Yes, it IS a a money grab (Aren't all collectors editions really?), but for spending that extra money you get something out of it.
It proves that even one of the WORLDS most popular franchises in the world "Star Wars" can epically fail on a sub model. ESO has a fair smaller fanbase then Star wars and suffers from the same problems as SWTOR.
all collector's editions are not money grabs in terms of gameplay. you might get the soundtrack or some art, or some sort of aesthetic bonus. you typically don't get an entire race not ever available for anyone else. people always balk at this sort of stuff and for good reason.
I'm replying to what he was using as proof, I never played SWTOR to see it's share of problems, and yes I'll admit ESO has it's fair share, some of which are fixed, some of which still annoy me; yet I still play ESO because I get enjoyment out of it.
I'll say it again, I agree that the Imperial race being edition exlusive was a bad move, but it's not a reason I would boycott an MMO.
I play SWTOR now. I have to admit that currently it is a much better MMO with much more stuff to do, however, SWTOR has been out for 2+ years. ESO is in about the same shape SWTOR was when it was released, so maybe after 2 years ESO will be worth playing. It is not currently worth playing.
except you also asserted that all collector's editions are money grabs. they all aren't. players who buy the full game actually didn't. if they wanted the full game, they should have gotten the imperial edition. that's the reality of it, but zenimax doesn't market it that way. they put people into a multiplayer environment and give perks to people who pay more. it's funnier thinking about how zenimax said they had no intentions of going f2p when they already have the right attitude for exploiting ppl.
i didn't boycott the game because of it. however after playing it, it's something i think should have deterred me from the game. that kind of content barrier shows the developer's intentions with the game and with their customers. with all of the more pressing problems with this game, unless someone is extremely bored, i dont' see why anyone would drop any money on ESO.
Full Game = All content of a game right? Most Collectors Editions come with exclusive ingame content, which isn't in any other version, therefore again people who buy a standard edition are not getting the full game. If the game comes with Art Books/Soundtracks instead, it's still a money grab but in a way that doesn't affect other people who just want the complete game.
Pre-Order Bonuses are another thing entirely, but you may not have the full game if you don't preorder it, as you may miss out on some exclusive bonuses. (This is something I am definitely against however)
It isn't F2P yet. They are still grabbing as much money as they can before the flip the switch.
From what I saw of their content I certainly cannot justify paying monthly for their game, let alone the moneygrab DLC. Additionally just because people can afford .50 cents a day on top of all the other costs in this game doesn't mean that its smart or worth it. Especially when the game is quite obviously designed with the full intention of becomming F2P. This points out that the company has one foot out the back door when it comes to intent on making this game worth subscription cost and or purchase cost in the future.
rationalize it to be better or acceptable to your low standards all you want. if you just look at a zenimax's release alone, it is exploitative, and as for what other companies do, people do complain about those preorder bonuses quite a bit. eso: imperial edition is the full game in everything but name, and it's 20 dollars more than eso: minus one race.
