The other problem I'm having is the story, or narrative, is just all over the place.
I just escaped the tutorial area and there is no reference or mention of what just happened, I'm suddenly supposed to care about other people's problems and issues without any regard to where I came from or who I am. The biggest turn off was as a Breton just entering the world, suddenly I'm supposed to care about some guy's pig and find it for him........HUH?!?! I don't care about your pig or where it is, I just escaped another realm dude, why do I care?
I realised how everything just spits story names and locations at you without any context and I'm supposed to care. All the small local stories are hardly connected if at all, I'm only interested in the main events but even then, those main stories take a back seat to local people's petty problems all the time.
Well, you can pick almost any build for 90% of the content, mainly because the game is easy. But if you look at build guides they'll tend to coalesce around what works best for the role, and you always get a kind of convergent evolution in builds for this reason, and that's not unique to ESO; there simply is always a mathematical best.
That said, the criticisms in this thread are valid. Combat is the game's weak point, I have to agree, and the face-roll ease of much of it is a ZOS choice, no doubt to bring in that juicy casual $, so I don't see things improving.
Combat is chill and smooth, and very active... none of that boring and irritating "Tab Targetting".
I'm glad overland content is easy. If it was severely difficult to farm gear that you are looking for or need in order to take on even harder content, making you frustrated as hell if you couldn't do it... would piss many ppl the hell off and probably just quit entirely. I also like it because you can enjoy the actual story at least once, your first time through... the devs created a very good and in depth game for everyone to enjoy, I say at least give it the experience.
I enjoy that there is a great deal of content in the game. I'm impressed that every single year new content is added... you don't see that in any other MMO. If you're lucky you might get a DLC every few years on other games. I like that there is so much to do you can never say there isn't anything to do. Just because YOU'RE bored doesn't mean there isn't anything in the game to do.
amen. the overland content is like a classic elder scrolls game. the enemies are canon fodder for the lore. this isnt dark souls or elden ring and its not supposed to be. if everything was like a dark souls enemy no one would have time to soak in the lore / world which is so detailed they would be spending it trying to not die. thats why elden ring / dark souls have a obscure story because they know most dont have the time for it they we just trying to get through the game.
have any of these people whining done vet maelstrom / dlc dungeons / vet trials /hardmodes etc? prob not.
there is always games like elden ring they can go play with a pointless "story" and difficult overland. it rather amazing store and series with a deep lore since the early 90s than flail in your face monsters every 2 seconds and a story i couldnt gave a crap about. plus eso has so much optional content thats just as hard as those other games if not harder in some cases.
Yes, I, a player of only 1 week in this game, am whining about what I am noticing because I am not letting bias and the many hours put into the game cloud my judgment.
So you are both one of those 'end game is all that matters' sort of players. That is fine and okay but don't think that is everyone's purpose for playing a game that has many hours to experience before that. Why would I care about end-game content when the base game experience of leveling is uninteresting, not engaging and a slog.
It is okay to be bias towards a game you have put many hours into but discounting anyone else's opinion because it doesn't match what you want is unfair and offensive.
If only someone warned me that 'end game is all that matters' for this game then I wouldn't have bothered with it at all in the first place.
Just want to point out that if your not here for the combat, then you should be reading a book, you will get much better stories. If you are here for the RP...then good luck finding the 5 people who do that. And this game has daily log in rewards and monthly login rewards that penalize you by not giving you the best stuff if you miss a day.
Have you looked at the rewards? Bet you havent. The things you get are of high value. YOU may not think bonus xp is valuable, but that stuff is damn near mandatory unless you want to spend 6+ hours a day grinding for years. So dont trying to take the high road. Your bais is on full ugly display my dude.
No, you didn't.
If you had, you would know that ESO offers plenty of more difficult content. You skimmed the low hanging fruit reviews/videos, that covered early game content, and made your decision based on that.
If you are done complaining (probably not), go play something else. Bye.
