What causes fps drops in this game?
No matter if I am in 2160p or 480p I get the same fps drops.
It has been 2 years that I am here wondering what is causing this.
It's not my GPU or CPU's fault so what is it? The game's fault?
I tried every known tweaks to boost fps but it never worked. Some places always lag, no matter if I'm playing at 144p, I'll never understand.

The update 25 changed nothing btw.

It's probably the first and only game ever where I experience this.
Lowering the resolution does absolutely nothing. Many places will lag no matter If the game looks like a NES game.

Ok I think I found the problem : The servers.
During the night I see a lot of improvement fps wise. I went to Alinor and the difference was huge, but it still had fps drops so I don't know.

Well the more players you got on screen the worst the fps are, here's your answer.

Be sure to keep your game driver up-to-date. A single update changed my fps.

Also, watch your "Ping" - which relates to your server communication speed.

And your mods - if they overload your allowed server bandwidth with server queries - then your fps will drop. Master Merchant for example.

But there are 1 or 2 people in front of me, sometimes 0, it can't be this.

I think fps drops are tied to certain areas.
Vulkhel Guard, Alinor (especially in the Plaza of the Hand and Rinmawen's Plaza), Illumination Academy (and at the west of it), Elden Root (pretty much everywhere in this). I'm sure there are a lot more but I can't remember, it's been a while I didn't play.

Indoor areas are absolutely 100% clean with 0 frame drop most of the time (80 or 85% of them).

Again, even if I'm playing at 480p or 4k there are no differences.

I'm searching solutions because it really is annoying to play at 15 fps in these areas. I've a good PC I run most of the games I have at 60 fps and more so it can't be my PCs fault.

After 1,5 year of Hiatus (I have 750+ hours on this game) I just can't bear this problem. I know it happens in everytown ever (even in Coldharbour lol). The scenery is beautiful but I can't appreciate it with 15 fps.

Maybe the performance improvements Zenimax are doing will solve this problem, I really hope...

EDIT : I capped my fps to 60 and walked at the west of the Illumination Academy and it is horribly optimized. I had various small fps drops just by walking around. When I fought some creatures I had fps drops to 50 fps just by casting spells. It's clearly the game's fault, not mine. I play Deep Rock Galatic and have 60 fps 97% of the time.

people and npc are the worst offender when it comes to fps drops. early mornings in rimmen on eu i get some 60fps with my notebook, but during the day its usually the low/mid 30s if theres many folks around. sure, this machine is old and all, but that is the one big major fps menace for me.

and then theres some clearly unoptimized locations like mentioned above where sometimes even textures fail to load properly when you ride fast around or use the wayshrines in crowded places like vulkhel guard.

but its playable so im not complaining unless the serverhamster die again.

I'd try ethernet cable to see if that fixes it

It’s because ZOS hasn’t done a single thing to improve their servers over the past 6 years and their coding is crap. Performance issues are widespread and known by ZOS. They either refuse to fix it or just don’t know how. A lot of us have lost hope and are quitting due to their neglect of their game.
