Oh God why the heck the houses are so EXPENSIVE????
Newbie here. I literally one got this game to play as an argonian, go to black mash and embraze lizard life while blasting Swamp Things by Pegboard Nerds at full volume.

So i decide to check the 2 houses in Shadowfel and my heart feld to the floor when i saw the price.

170K TO 190K septims.

Is this something possible even? Is there something i am missing?

If you have 100 columbine flowers, you have enough to buy a 300k gold house and AT LEAST 50k gold to blow on furnishings. Literally, faster than it took me to type this message... that is from selling 1 resource that is readily available. There are HUNDREDS of different resources/craft materials in this game.

While you are gathering these materials you may also notice that you have the ability to find, learn and craft furnishings yourself. Additionally, you can buy furniture at vendors in zone hubs, and these furnishings range from super cheap to slightly expensive and requiring achievements. FINALLY you have the player market, here you are going to find the best deals on cheap furniture (if u look) and furnishings or plans that are worth millions stacked on millions of gold. This is scary until you are the one holding the 5 million gold plan, then it is quite peachy. :D

You do not need to have millions of gold to enjoy housing. There are cheap houses (around 50k) with 200 slots (w/o eso plus) that will be TONS of fun to mess around with (if housing is ur thing)

Finally, Housing is huge in ESO and if you join a housing guild you are going to be surprised by how people throw furnishings and plans at each other in the sake of mutual fun. In this last event, my housing guild EASILY gave away over a billion gold's worth (collectively) in plans to each other, and that is not counting actually crafted/found pieces.

===================================

To the OP, keep jamming out and leveling... the prices seem scary but that is because you have yet to see how much value crafting materials/plans have. Even as a lowbie with 0 skillpoints in crafting skills you can find materials and items that are worth TONS OF GOLD.

THIS HAS LESS TO DO WITH FURNISHING AND JUST GENERAL ADVICE:

The first thing you need to do is download the 'Tamriel Trade Center' addon so that you can see what is worth all the gold and what isn't worth keeping.
(to start, no need to throw MM, or MC at a newbie)

When I started ESO I was thrown off by the gold prices and crowns and someone told me to download TTC and check prices on everything i loot. I did that and i went from not being able to buy a bank upgrade to having over 1m in the fully upgraded bank in less than a week... after that things made sense..

It is REALLY easy to make gold in ESO, without selling crowns.

becuase that is for those players who are paying plus.
After you joined plus, you will get around 1700 crowns every month for "free", that's why so many players have crown to sell in game, because that is almost usless if they are paying plus for DLC and do not play housing.

P.S. I thought he were talking about "crown houses" are expensive, it is my fault.

Nah, you are just too poor like most. Wait until you see the price tag of furnishings ... Haha, several times more than the house itself.

It is a money & time sink even for the riches.

Actually they're not expensive at all. At this moment everyone is a millonaire in the game. Back in the days those prices were really expensive, but now it's not

Not to sound elitest about this but the longer you play the game(quests, crafting and looting anything of value, even stealing left and right from bank chests and containers), the more gold you will amass, to the point those prices on the houses are nothing to be worried about:).
I have played eso for over 6 years, i have 300-400k on each alt toon, and over 40 mil on the main character. And i heard of perople who have ten times that, so im not that much a whale as the others are:).
Keep hoarding/adventuring/questing/stealing and you'll be able to buy those houses in less than 6 months of play(if not earlier).
So dont give up youll be rich too in no time:).

i dont understand why i'm playing since november 2019 and when try to visit any house and try to press F5 to purchase it you read the message "this house is not currently for sale".
it's scandalous

Gold is very intimidating when you first start this game.

Its really a good idea to just not buy stuff for quite a long time and loot, gather, collect, vendor everything in your path through world and get to max gear level so all your gear drops come at that level.

By then you should have a lot of materials to sell, then go join a trade guild and start selling stuff you find or crafted and then you'll find its pretty trivial to earn a million gold a week.

I waited about a year before I bothered joining one. I sorta wish I had started sooner, but farming overland or public dungeon gear that actually sells isn't really my thing, so i waited til i had loads and loads of mats and grand master crafter completed.

Most things sell. TTC is a good resource if you don't really know what sells or prices to set.

If you want to sell gear, make sure its a desirable set and also make sure its CP160 (max level) as the lower level stuff is worthless.

You can hit max level very quickly just playing the main quest and zone quest lines for your alliance as you follow the main quest from zone to zone. Basically just doing about 5 of the zones in the world, with a bit a travel to get to them. You will be max level with respect to all gear drops that follow on that toon.

Once you have some inventory and are ready to sell, join a trade guild. The high traffics ones are where you can really move items. They tend to come with minimum sales requirements you must meet, or donations, or spend x on the lottery each week to stay in the guild, Deshann, Wayrest, Elden Root, and many others,

Its very easy to make a million a week selling materials, recipes, gear etc and if you keep your slots filled.

Then those homes aren't as out of reach as they seemed when you started playing months ago. I have all of them you can buy for gold, and a couple of the crown store exclusives.

I am just annoyed that there is no auto-furnish option for more gold, if we blast this many gold on houses i don't see why that option is not available, just like in the single player counterparts

Join a guild that has a guild store. Sell everything you collect. Check https://tamrieltradecentre.com/ to make sure you are getting a fair sell. Fastest way to make money. I made 500,000 coin in less than a week.
