Worth getting those companions?
I got my first companion with the expansion, Silent as Night and noticed he isnt strong and ended up getting killed, etc. So wasnt sure if you can make them stronger, such as better gear, enchanting their gears, so on.

I dont think i will keep him, just isnt strong enough to survive in most nasty hostile situations :(

They are somewhat useful, though don't come even close to another player of course.

Some do certain things better than others, though technically all can do everything.
You do indeed need to level them a bit for the skills and get better equipment.

In the end though, yeah - they are semi-useful novelty you cannot rely on to carry you.
Building a healer is fine, but won't actually save you.
Building a tank is fine, but you still need to babysit them and don't expect them to actually tank like a player would.

They seem pretty good for damage though, especially if you are leveling a tank / healer yourself.

All the companions are trashy ones, except for Bastian. He's a dk, he can deal good damage, also he has good self healing (and he can burst heal you) he doesn't die too often, i have more companions, but i like bastian the most. Have you tried using him in combat?

Companions can be useful if you're roaming around doing things solo, depending on how you equip them and their Skill set-up. Most outfit their Companions with all (Superior "blue") gear, which is sufficient enough to let them do what they gotta do. If you're very good at making millions of Gold, then go ahead and outfit your Companions with (Epic "purple") gear. It does not make a huge difference between "blue vs purple" gear, but if you can afford it, then go for it.

I only have 3 Companions that are fully outfitted with (Epic "purple") gear, for a Tank, a Healer, and a DPS. If I want to use another Companion for whatever role, I just give them the gear another Companion already has.

Bastian is my Tank. He makes a better tank than all the rest because he's a Dragonknight, and has access to more tankish skills than all the other Companions. He wears all Heavy - Bolstered (Reduce Damage) gear. He has tanked World Bosses impressively, as long as he has some kind of self-healing or a Healer keeping him alive. With that gear, he's been able to survive Heavy Attacks from World Bosses.

Isobel is my Healer. She makes a better healer than all the rest because she's a Templar, and has access to more healing skills than all the other Companions. She wears all Light - Soothing (Increase Healing) gear. She has kept me alive through World Bosses and other various scenarios that would easily kill me, as well as, being able to keep herself alive.

Ember is my DPS. She makes a better DPS than all the rest because she's a Sorcerer, has access to more "aoe" skills than all the other Companions, along with some pretty good single target skills as well, and her Ultimate alone is by far... the best... in my opinion. She wears all Medium - Quickened (Reduce Skill Cooldown), gear. As long as you give her a self-healing skill, along with another skill she uses that refreshes all her skill cooldowns, which works absolutely amazing with all Quickened gear, she throws out damage a lot faster, allowing her to do more DPS than if she was wearing all Aggressive (Increase Damage) gear.

You can direct where your companions go by holding down {not pressing) your Y button and pressing either left mouse or right mouse.

Y+Right click: Makes them attack that target. Also heavy attacking will make them switch to that target too.

Y+Left click: Calls them back to you. Useful if they're standing in AoE like knobheads.

I might grab Bastian, i need a tank for my necromancer roles. That dark elf, is alright but she complain alot. The lizard isnt too bad, but still sqashy. Btw i did manage to find some greens and blues companion gears. But they never drop unless you have a companion in your party.

Bastian has an all around solid foundation. Easy to acquire and hard to mess up in terms of build and he still performs relatively well.

The only downside is he a goodie goodie type and has a hissy fit if you steal or kill stuff.

They're very nice if you're soloing everything. I mean I could solo everything pre companions just fine to but they sped up things a bit more. Also most of the times they're more useful than whatever rubbish you meet in queues. Also they don't throw insults and slurs at you for no reason.
My favorite companions so far are Bastian and Ember. Ember is especially nice if you like to steal stuff and use blade of woe regularly. Haven't tried the argonian yet but I will definitely at some point because I've been waiting long for an argonian companion.

Just be careful with the new, Argonian Companion, Sharp-as-Night: his non-combat passive grants a higher chance of catching unfiletable fish (such as the kind needed for the "Angler" achievements, and, possibly, water-related Player Home furnishings, such as display fish, seaweed, sponges, etc.) and, possibly, Wet Gunny Sacks (you know, those bags you sometimes pull up when fishing that usually contain gear-improvement-items, such as pitch, honing stones, and Aspect runestones (like Ta, Jejota, Denata, Rekuta, and Kuta)). This has caused some amount of strife and stress in the crafting community, since it obviously means fewer filetable fish, which, of course, means less Perfect Roe on the market, thus driving their prices up. On the other hand, there's now never been a better time to sell Perfect Roe (again, for obvious reasons)....

October 30th starts update 40, New Endless dungeon for you by yourself or take your companion or a real friend. it's a 2 man dungeon and what we seen of it, it's freakin' awesome.
Question Mark Sep 20, 2023 @ 6:12am
You can make companions stronger by leveling them up and getting new skills or by changing their gear.

Companions are helpful- but not much. They are mostly used in the open world- but there is pretty much no content there where their help would make any difference.

The endless dungeon might make them more important though

Yesterday i got Bastian, decided to head back over to Western Skyrim. One quest, having to deal with fozen skeletons and hounds, that minny boss, i nearly killed it then move on two others and it was heading straight for Bastian. I heard him saying "i nearly got my a$$ kick"! lol. Only problems with Bastian, if you loot thieve troves (blue glowing chest) he will start losing rapport (how he feel toward you as reputation).

I didnt like the darkelf from Blackwood, cause i collect alot of butterfly wings, it was really annoying to hear her talking craps too. The lizard isnt too bad, but you dont want to pick up things if you going to discard them, he doesnt like that either.

I havent tried the other companions yet, i think i will hold on to Bastian for now. Someday i may ended up getting bit by a blood fiend, then become a vampire. Not sure how Bastian will react to that, but if you go around murder people, stealing. You wont be able to keep him.

Both Ember and Mirri like when you steal, but no companion likes when you murder civilians.
Put them away when doing Dark Brotherhood.

Oh how interesting, i should look into that. What zone are they in?
Commancho Sep 20, 2023 @ 7:11pm
They are completly useless in any role. They cant even carry your loot. No idea why they were implemeted in the first place, what a waste of rescurces. I guess some players felt lonely in MMO lmao
