If you keep an eye on the ESO forums at all you'd see just how pissed people are about this.
The biggest issue with this decision is that the people at the endgame, traders and just about anyone with a sizeable amount of gold, is suddenly unable to use their gold on one of the biggest things this game's monetization has: crown crates.
Suddenly you're not able to use those millions of gold on crown crates anymore, whether you got them flipping the market as a trader, or for running endgame pve content and getting lucky rolls like expensive motifs from a vet DLC dungeon. All you can do is hold onto that gold or buy cosmetics directly, and at one point you run out of things you're interested in trading for. That's where crates used to come in, they'd give you a constant reason to dump your gold if you trade for them.
The crown to gold exchange rate has plummeted quite a bit already. It's at 900:1 when it was at 1200:1, and last time it was at 900 was roughly two years ago. It's on a steady decline, and with the way things work in the ESO economy, next crown sale is going to make that go down even further with no gold sink in the game (atleast when you've got everything you want).
ZOS is riding too hard on Arcanist being the sole reason to buy Necrom. What happens when you don't like the new class and the expansion is 100% centered around the new class and there's absolutely nothing else for you there? You just don't have any interest and you don't ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ play.
I will still play because I love ESO but if you think the game's in a good state for anyone in the endgame, then oh man, I wish I was so naive.
This.
Endgame groups and people just leave, ZOS treats old players (customers) badly, and only have those new players in, lured enough to buy crowns for cool mounts, then many leave once they at endgame notices the bad sides, the flip flop nerfs and buffs and the constant bad decisions by ZOS, be at about almost anything, crown crates, itemization, set/skill changes, they just have someone incompetent there constantly making all the bad decision. Game would be better if that person (or few people) were replaced years ago. But it must be someone high enough that their job is "secured".
Because anyone realistic (even if they love ESO, i did, i played for 5 years so i loved and was addicted, but as said, last 2 years i was just playing for my friends, but felt that game was heading to bad direction with all the time bad decisions that made no sense, almost like some kid without experience, or if adult, then completely out or realities was leading and making decisions.
So endgame is not healthy, both PVP and pve, really little amount of serious pve groups. Anyone who is them knows how little the endgame group/circle has become from even few years ago.
Some just not wanna accept or admit. Good thing there are people like you who can admit things.
I know, it's hard while loves something. Prolly same with relationships, that kinda can still be in for a few years, even when things not worked that well anymore. But can feel like routines and nostalgia is what keeps playing.
The last years i felt that I loved ESO, but ESO never loved me, they just did bad decisions that wasted my time and money.
And breaking their own product often with poor code and changes. Then months of "We apologize for the inconvenience.. again." type of things when block not work for ages or some trial dungeon is bugged for months or server works like you are connected from your this years PC to ESO server that is some pocket calculator from the 90's with it's performance. And their customer service sends automated reply to try turn your pc off and on an reset your router. Meanwhile every other game works with 35ms ping and ESO has 300-400ms ping and up to 3-5 second lag spikes at Cyrodiil. Like you cannot make this stuff up.
I'm not your bro, buddy.
If anything, more like a bratty stepsister. ^^
PS. Last decent update was Elsweyr. Alltho Summerset was superior to that also. Everything since is just low effort cash grab and bad decisions. #CannotChangeMyMind
The most popular MMO atm is FF14.
After that there is WoW.
I wish I started ESO earlier, I'm having a blast almost a year now. I never played FF, I don't like that school-girl anime style, so I'll compare it with WoW only
- People are helpful unlike WoW - In WoW I barely made friends and few of them were helpful at all. I don't talk about temporary Raid groups, toxicity is off the charts among them. But in ESO, the day I started someone invited me to a guild and they provided me all the information I need. They gave me gear, directions, what to do's and everything. So far I only encountered only one toxic player and it was the tank in Vet dungeon. So far so good!
- WoW is buggier - I prefer PvE over PvP and I like story quests over group events. So I've been all over the place for both games. How hard could it be to fix a very obvious bug that prevents quest completion for a quest released 15 years ago?!?!? Yet, Blizzard fixes that for you for that instance only when you reach a GM. Quests are littered with bugs and I don't even talk about newly released maps and group events.
I don't deny, ESO is also buggy, but I managed my work around for all of them so far and only bug visible for me now is the Crown Crates. I never get stuck or lose anything because of bugs.
- Game is alive - No, you know a game is dead when you quest for days without encountering anyone. In WoW, you don't need to visit any cities because crafting is ♥♥♥♥ and you don't need anything else if you have that Yak with trader and mog. So, I quested for days, went everywhere, battled big bosses but there was not a single soul to help me out. When you are not in the latest maps released, you understand how dead the game is.
But in ESO, there are people in all maps and almost all public dungeons and delves. I simply wait 5 minutes near a world boss and someone just comes in without even asking in Zone chat.
- There is no BS in ESO - Now ask any WoW player if they still farm Apexis crystals, or where is their "Artifact Points" that been farmed for months. I'm sure your farm in Pandaria has all the rotten vegetables now. Every WoW expension is exhausting regardless the time you play them. I spent months improving my Artifact Weapon just to see it taken away just a couple of months later. Look up how many currencies that you can farm in order to obtain a gear, mount or simply nothing because they patched it and it doesn't worth ♥♥♥♥.
ESO so far hasn't made me deal with such bs. There are dailies that you can farm gear, titles or whatever, but they are not mandatory and they are more fun than killing trash mob in a forgotten place for months just to get a single piece of cool gear that you won't even use but just want it to mog.
- ESO doesn't have that content garbage - Similar to topic above, I spent months just to increase my Jewelcrafting in WoW, not P2W way, but I mined everything in every map, even went under that sea map and spend countless hours, just to be cut off by some guy in Market to the point of no profit and forced to leave the competition because those people don't sleep.
In ESO we don't have that "open market" for everyone at once, but that's the beauty of it. You improve yourself with trading and build on that. Competition is still there, but if you wanna buy something, you don't jump into the first offer, you search for the best offer. Plus, you can sell and buy everything you get from the level 1, but in WoW, you either sell beginner level crafting mats until people buying it give up mid way or high level stuff that you will definitely get under cut all the time.
I can actually go on for hours, but just want to point out one last thing. This game is beautiful. WoW is outdated as ♥♥♥♥, either gameplay, graphics, sounds, effects etc. Now I know there can be better games in terms of some aspects, but combining all, the game is stunning.
Of course there are things that could be better with this game, but this game is definitely not dead, looks and plays better, does not make you regret for anything and still relevant.
So, cut your bs please.
Nah, haven't you heard? The most popular MMO atm is GW2. This is the "year of GW2" after all ;)
Well, the thing is.. for totally new player ESO seems decent enough for sure. Sort of can be like "Skyrim Lite, but online". Also has plenty of content to do since so many expansions and so on out, since already "old game". Compared to say like when New World did launch, it did not really have endgame (or beyond) much at all. Outside of grinding better gear for pvp.
You only start to see most of problems once you reach endgame (unless it's housing for you and you don't mind buying 50-100 dollar for ONE house, yes, ESO has that costly houses also) and notices one thing. Both pve and pvp endgame groups/circle/community, or how you wanna call it, is really small. People there, old players, quit a lot, because they had for years suffered from combat teams "balance" decisions, bugs, lag and overall bad performance.
You notice you soon know pretty much everyone by name, that means the endgame community is really small. When in pvp where it is supposed to be "thousands of players" you fight same few names everyday and know how each of them how they fight, what sets they use, all that. It means you see only the same few people all the time.
Noticing that at endgame and how small it has gotten from few years back is sad, even for me. I never said ESO cannot be fun, it can be especially for new players. You have not yet been molested for years by the combat team making all your effort (grinding gear and leveling classes) useless with totally absurd changes (making everything the same, but with different color animations) and making the whole game a bland, scuffed version of what it was. It used to be so much better game.
That is what i'm saying.
You are sort of lucky as a new player, you have not seen the "good old days" so you can just enjoy it as sort of Skyrim Lite and chill. But before you spend huge amount of money at least, if you care about hardest endgame content (or pvp), then read this as a warning about how small it has become during the last couple years. Small circles anymore. But yes, the overland can be decent entertainment for new players (for old it's too easy when everything gets one shot pretty much). So enjoy, but do not invest your soul & money into the game, if at all you are sort of "endgame progression" type of player. You will find struggle there to find what you are looking for, often.
I did find it again, in other game(s).
But, to not sound negative only, i do wish you a happy friday and weekend! :)
Can't find people to make trials anymore, inflation has gone ISANE and they're making everything easy just to make more money.
It's a good game, but they ruined the endgame
