Occasionally crashing when alt+tabbing during a loading screen
(With all due respect, I just wanna know if this is only happening to me)

This occasionally happens in my case, plus, I think it happens mostly when I only frequently alt+Tab during a loading screen. Game settings are all high, I have a 64gb of ram, a gtx 1070 ti, and an i7 processor. I've never crashed in other games yet, thus this is the only game where I experienced this kind of issue which is it basically crashes my game to desktop (occasionally) whenever I alt+tab during a loading screen. It's like there's a 15 percent chance of crashing whenever I am alt+tabbing during a loading screen and yes, I am running the game in full screen mode.

I don't use and have no installed add-ons at all.

Is this normal though? Like has anyone also experienced this kind of issue?

The crash form said something like this "We're sorry, the elder scrolls online has quit unexpectedly" and below that line, it said that eso has stopped working.

Ahh I see, okay then, I feel relieved, I thought something was dying inside of my system unit lol.

A man goes to a doctor, he says, "Doctor, it hurts when I do this."
The doctor replies, "Then don't do that."

Moral of the story: Don't Alt-Tab while it's loading and you won't crash. :steammocking:

I had way less problems when I put the game in "borderless window" instead of "exclusive fullscreen". Maybe it helps.

Been playing for ESO+ over 3 years now and have never had a problem since I started using "borderless window" about 2-4 weeks into playing. I have 2 monitors and am able to use the other monitor when I need some 'assistance' of some kind.

Not true. Lots of games will crash when you take away focus during a loading screen. Just wait until it's done loading, then Alt+Tab.

Well, I find it weird cuz the other games that I currently play don't crash when I alt-tab whilst they're loading, to be specific, games such as Rainbow 6, Apex, and so on. I guess I am lucky that they're not included in the "lots of games" that would crash if alt-tabbed while loading.

I would have first complained about the other games that I am also playing if they did crash when being alt-tabbed while they were loading. But of course, I just searched about it on Google and found out that lots of games do indeed crash when they're alt-tabbed while they are loading. I wouldn't even bother posting this if this also happens in my other games as I've grown accustomed to alt-tabbing whilst a game is loading, been 2-3 years since my previous post in this community, To be honest, I wasn't experiencing this issue when I was still using my old and cloudy monitor, I just recently bought a 240hz monitor and the issue happened thrice already at different intervals.
Take note that the issue doesn't always happen in my case, I don't crash most of the time I am doing it, but after a few days or even a week or weeks of doing so, there will be a guaranteed crash. It's pretty much random since it only happened three times for now and I won't let it happen again, of course.

Oh well, I'd better stop doing it in my other games as well than wait for it to happen at a crucial point. So thank you so much for telling me this.

Okay, thanks for me telling me this, will def try this one, but it's better not to alt-tab while the game is loading. :Molag:

The important point is, was that man walking on nails, or was he just sitting down?
You should stop walking on nails, you should not stop sitting down.

Alt tabbing while a game is loading is the most common thing to do. You dont want to watch at a fixed image you have seen 2000 times.

And to answer other comments, no, most games dont crash when you alt tab on loading screens. A few may load a bit slower, but they dont crash...

This game crashes like 50% of the times you alt tab during a load screen, its ridiculous

stop alt-tabbing while loading..?
Knavenformed Jan 26, 2024 @ 4:53pm
If you're running on fullscreen then yeah it tends to happen for any program that loses its ♥♥♥♥ while trying to get back control

Set to borderless windowed, if that doesn't fix it then stop doing it.

Also necro'd
