Imo the gambling aspect is just a part of a bigger system. It is the exclusivity that drives people to buy loot crates or FOMO offers. People want something special, something that separates them from the majority. And this is true for the gamblers and other kinds of real money spenders as well as for those elitists who want exclusive items for ingame achievements that take hundreds of hours to get (which of course would be way more reasonable). But the premise is the same. So they cater to the wish of exclusivity that is deeply embedded in most MMO players. And it works like a charm.

Isn't that the critique this game often recieves though, that those items are locked behind loot crates instead of as ingame rewards for progression?

oh I didn't know you were guaranteed a mount before, that'd be nice to have now. Yeah I made this video with the intention of showing why one shouldn't spend money on crates. I agree it is waste, I find writing down the regret one feels helps in the future not to repeat the same mistake. Crown crates/gambling should be illegal in my opinion
