I know it`s free on epic, but first: I don`t like epic, 2nd: I like to have my games in one account and 3rd: I want be able to play on my couch :)
You don't actually need a companion though. There are many viable solo builds, including two classes that can summon permanent minions to fight alongside you.
If you can stretch to it, the necrom collection gives you the base game and nearly a decade of overworld content that can be done in any order, and 6 companions to choose from.
not worth it at all. trust me the game will suck you up until you are out of it. this game is like a cult of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Anyway, yeah, give it a try. Just don't expect the general community to be honest about how slimy the monetization really is; sunk cost fallacy, of hours of grind or many many dollars, are all that await you for pursuing that conversation with ESO players, lmao
And if you ever feel like you are done with the base game then you can pay a sub for a month to see if you like the DLC/Expansion content.
