The Elder Scrolls Online

WARNING!!!
Currently, ESO has a GAME-BREAKING BUG THAT DELETES PROGRESS, OR SHOWS QUEST-LINE PROGRESS WHERE IT SHOULDN'T BE YET. This has caused players to be locked out of quest-specific areas, preventing completion. It MAY be caused by "completing" PvP quests to kill enemy player arcanists, though it could be caused by something else. I put "completing" in scare-quotes because, from what I've read (I was never really into PvP myself, only doing it to earn transmute crystals), that quest will mark itself as "completed" before the requisite number of enemy player arcanists have been killed. More information can be found in the official complaint thread[forums.elderscrollsonline.com] on the official forums.

I STRONGLY urge players not to buy crowns nor to renew their subscriptions until the devs fix this bug. IT HAS BEEN KNOWN ABOUT EVER SINCE UPDATE 38 DEBUTED ON THE PTS, YET THE DEVS HAVE YET TO FIX IT.

Never heard of 'spaghetti-code', but I get what you're saying, and it can all be traced back to the source engine that bugthesda has used ever since TES3: gamebryo. I've heard that gamebryo is a video-game engine, but I've yet to see a video-game made using gamebryo without hundreds of bugs even after extensive testing and 'patching'. And don't let the names fool you: TESV's creation engine and ESO's hero engine are just modifications of gamebryo.

Sure, why would they even care now that they finally replace every completionist just with someone on EGS who wouldnt even spend €5,99 for the basegame on sale.

Team Diversity isn't know for their productivity.

It's all based on focusing on stuff that has nothing to do with people that actually buy their products.

Didn't think he'd actually get banned lol
Guess that's what happens when you go all Alex Jones on 12 different threads

Yep, spamming multiple threads gets an instaban but having GW2 fanboys constantly coming here to cause drama?

Nah, that's engagement for the algorithm.

Its like you pull on a noodle and suddenly noodles all over the place even on the complete opposite side of the plate are getting pulled from just that one single action. lol
You cant make that up, its like next level BS only ZOS can create and do absolutely nothing about it whatsoever!

At least you're right that you have a little bit of understanding, cuz that's not what "spaghetti code" means.

Spaghetti code basically dumbs down to poorly organized code.
The most common side effects are that it takes tons of effort to do anything, and when you do do things that you tend to effect stuff way out of scope.

Acpolax more or less has the gist of it, and things WAY out of scope is generally what ESO struggles from the most.

Like the time when, without changing anything about sanctum ophidia, a random update broke the troll boss leap in sanctum ophidia, so they temporarily removed it, and then never added it back.

The people who made the engine for ESO did not do a good job, and it's the source of a lot of troubles today.

Not all bugs are consistently reproducible, that's *not* how complex software works (and ESO is complex).

If the bug was game breaking, people would have been forced to stop playing. They have not done that, therefore it's not game breaking. QED.

@Acpolax & @Willing & Abel : I'm continuing to play the game because it's a good game, and one bug isn't going to stop me playing it.
Also, the Steam charts for the last month haven't shown any reduction in the number of players, and even though Steam only represents part of the ESO player base, it still provides a reasonable sample of the whole player base. So clearly many others feel like I do, and don't regard this bug as "game breaking".

So perhaps you should both objectively look at the facts, quit the hyperbole and childish retorts, and continue playing this good game? If not, well off you go then, have fun playing other games.

Latin abbreviation for quod erat demonstrandum: "Which was to be demonstrated." Q.E.D. may appear at the conclusion of a text to signify that the author's overall argument has just been proven.

Yeah lets play a numbers game
but lets compare a bigger timeframe
here is what steam charts shows for the month of june in several years

month ____ avg. players
June 2020 ____ 23,003.5
June 2021 ____ 21,282.8
June 2022 ____ 16,266.6
June 2023 ____ 15,327.5

objectively looking at these stats I can see 2020 was a great year for the whole gaming industry due to the covid lockdown.
Since then numbers are sinking rapidly (minus ~35% in 4 years) which is weird cause according to some estimates the total player count of ESO grew from 18 million players in 2020 to 22,6 million players in 2023 thats an increase of ~25%
So either the player count on steam isnt realy that representative
or there are just way more players quitting than new players actually play the game.

But yeah either way its probably not even that bad just like that bug that is apparently only just a tiny little bit gamebreaking.
No, that's incorrect. 2020 was during the pandemic, when a lot of people were stuck at home, so they naturally spent more time on computer activities such as online gaming. You failed to include that in your analysis.
