is DPS queuing up as a healer or tank an issue?
now i'm fairly brand new to the game (only 1 level 50 with 150cp) but the more and more i do regular dungeon the more of a problem i am seeing. i legit had 4 dungeons yesterday where i queued up as the healer only to have the "tank" be a staff wielding light armor wearing player who never taunted any of the bosses.

today i decided to play DPS and had a "healer" that only healed himself.

there should be something that people have to use in order to queue as healer/tank

(IMHO) Regarding your decision - consider this - generally:

In groups, TEAM APPROACH, Tank, DPS (DD in Europe) and Healers have very distinct /specialized roles. Tank taunts main enemy {boss / WM} and pulls enemy's facing away from rest of group. DPS cluster behind enemy, and blast away. Healer stands directly behind DPS, heals / purifies (remove negative effects) AND provides resources to DPS, and positives effects.

A group healer build (war horn, battle prayer, Orb, etc.) multiples the damage DPS deals, burns down enemy faster, etc.

This approach shines when fighting very strong Boss enemies, especially if mechanics are in play. Best practice is for one of the DPS to resurrect fallen comrades - not the healer, especially if only one healer is present.

Generally, a healer, healing only him/her self is a weaker DPS, but may live longer in tough battles. Team mates might not like this. You can get the free armory which allows each toon to have two builds. My healer has a solo build, and a group build. Equip according to situation.

Enjoy your journey - and be up front about which healer build you are bringing to a group activity.

i've been playing MMOs for 20+ years. i am brand new to THIS game thus the question. in a game where any "class" can queue as any role without have the essentials of what that make that role ... that's a problem.

for game mechanics:
it depends on dungeon.
- base game normal dungeons (most) are easily solo-able(in 15 min) and roles doesn't matter when high lvl or knowing the dungeon.
- dlc and vet dungeons do require roles for fast and "pleasant" run.

although there is a gamers with mindset that their time is more important than anyone else and they may queue as tank or healer due to fast queues and still been even fake dps which can lead to long or impossible clear - this fake roles i find annoying.

yes, I have encountered the same issue. depending on time of day and luck, you can queue for several minutes as a DPS at times, while healers and tanks get in almost immediately. So some players claim those roles just to get in quick. I have been in PUG groups where I never received any healing. I have also been in PUGS where a couple of high level players, sometimes all 3 of the other players, appear to be doing a speed run, leaving lots of mobs in their wake, skipping optional bosses and not looking for chests/bags. If I am lucky, they leave the group when they finish and at least I get a companion to come out. I far prefer running with guild mates.

No, it's not an issue for most content. Normal dungeons and some vet dungeons it is perfectly fine. You should have a self-heal anyway, otherwise you are a net drag on your team. The only people who ever have a problem with this are mostly new and inexperienced players.

Dismissing problems it causes for new and inexperienced users is the root of the problem.

How does it cause problems? The people that queue as fake tanks and healers are always capable and the content is completed either way. Adapt, get good (unironically), and move on. Or, you could be different for a change and play tank or healer. Problem solved.

My main was a healer from the time I started the game up to about a year or more after because I knew it would be far easier to grind for gear.

Not sure they are all capable, but maybe; hard to tell when you get killed by a boss no one is taunting and/or they leave you behind. I can handle that now in most dungeons. But early on, when vet players offered me no healing and left me in the dust, it was definitely a problem. I have heard *many* others make similar comments. Lots of vet players share your attitude toward beginners.

Why do you think eso requires the mix?

NOT all players who queue as fake <whatevers> are actually capable. 1) Mechanicals may make such intentional deceptions a set up for a disappointing time for rest of group. 2) Many times true, BUT, deception is deception. Honorable, much? 3) Bottom line, deception as to role vs actual build/skill set betrays the rest of the group - even if activity is completed.

As I said, the only people who have a problem with this is new players. New players who queue as DPS should be thankful they even got a group, because without those fake tanks and healers they would be waiting in queue for eternity.

Stop smashing your face into a keyboard and just play tank or healer.

Id imagine the kinds of people doing this are the same ones leaving their shopping carts all over the parking lot, driving like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ etc. But it does seem to depend on the dungeon and some are really easy.

Wow- "new players who queue as dps should be thankful they even got a group". The way you keep defending that attitude is surprising. As another user said, deception is deception. Based on your replies, I can't change your mind and I certainly can't make you right, so I am giving up on reasoning with you.

I dealt with the same things you are describing. I didn't whinge about it, I just adapted to the situation. Again, if you don't have a self-heal then you are doing it wrong. If you don't know how to block or avoid when a boss is on you, then you are doing it wrong.

And how am I wrong? It's a simple irrefutable fact that dps queues take a very, very long time. Why do you think dps players queue as tank and heal? Again, be thankful you got a group, or be a rebel and play (a real) tank/heal.
