housing/storage
is there any way to get a home or place of residence at start of game to store excess inventory? it’s too early in the game for me to know what half the stuff is for and I’m sick of having full inventory all the time and having to destroy stuff I’ll eventually need ... any help?

In most major city hubs there's a bank that you can access with 60 storage spaces. That should get you started. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Bank

Go to crown store page. Look for free housing quest. Activate it and do quest. You'll get a free house (an apartment) and I believe you get a free 30 slot container you can place in your house.

As mentioned above, you can also visit the bank to dump your stuff. You can increase your bank capacity limit using gold.

The free storage chest is available when your character hits level 18, so it might be faster to just ensure you upgrade your horse carrying capacity and buy bank and bag slots. (You can buy horse upgrades even before you earn your free mount at level 10, and its one per 20 hours so you really should start early)

But honestly? Other than crafting materials, the armor/weapons you need, any maps etc you plan to use, just sell everything you don't immediately need. There's no point saving any gear before you hit cap (level 50 CP160), you have to replace it every 5-10 character levels anyway.

If you plan to be a crafter start deconstructing everything you don't need. It will add up eventually. And honestly, its just a matter of time to earn enough gold to BUY whatever you actually want. No need to hoard just yet.

thanks for the replies ... found the free housing ... just logged out so I didn’t check for any free chests I may have got ... only level 12 so a little ways off the levelled chest ... good to know about the bank too ... have only played skyrim so I wouldn’t have even thought of it otherwise ... thanks again 👍

you can buy 4 x 60 slot chests, plus 4 x 30 slot chest. You'll earn a small chest as you level up.

I did look up where to buy chests but the guide I found only mentioned buying them from the tel var merchant which I believe is part of one of the dlc packs ... which I of course don’t have and can’t afford lol ... where else can they be purchased? is there a specific type of merchant I should be looking for? I’ve seen none at the furniture merchants and house goods merchants

Storage chests are purchased with writ vouchers which you can only obtain by doing master crafter writs. You only get those when you are a master crafter. 100 for a 30 slot chest and 200 for the 60. Maybe you can get storage chests for real money in crown store. No idea on that. The storage chests can be placed in your home. The size of your home determines how many you can have out. Free apartment is 1 (double with eso+). The biggest house is 5 (then double with plus). You can switch out chests with stuff in them and nothing happens to the stuff inside but you can only access them in your home. Also, if you put all 8 chest in your home and let your plus expire the 3 extra chests stay. If you take one away you can't put it back i assume. I am not willing to try as the whole point of buying the big house was to have all eight chests in it.

You can also buy storage chests with telvar stones (first one is 100,000 I think), but you need the imperial city dlc (or the gold edition or eso+) for that.

cheers for the info ... they certainly don’t make it easy for item hoarders like myself lol ... my skyrim save I have maybe 50 chests with hundreds of items each ... I obviously will need to change my playing style ... I just like being able to take everything I can as I go and just hoard it in chests til whenever I choose to concentrate on a particular craft ... are the banks all connected? ie-what i store in one I can access through all? or do they each have their own inventory?
Captain Conundrum Jul 14, 2018 @ 5:43pm
The banks are all connected, so you have one bank account that you can access for all of your characters in every location. This does mean that you can create a whole bunch of storage characters if you want. Have these characters access the bank and remove items that you want to have in long-term storage. When you need them later on, just put the items back in the bank and then switch back to your main character.

Oh, the inventory shuffle! I have a crafting main and 2 mules, one in each alliance just for the heck of it. In the beginning it was a huge hassle passing mats back and forth, but as each character hit +150 bag slots and my bank but 220 slots, it got much easier.

Just fence every bit of treasure you loot, you canNOT display it or store it so the money is all you want for it. Bank slots get more expensive!

FYI: one 60 storage chest will hold all provisioning material (high 40s) and one 30 storage chest will hold all alchemy materials (27 i think) not counting the liquids for alchemy. I sell extra stacks in guild trader. Obviously, stuff in storage is not accessible at crafting stations like bank and craft bag stuff.
