The Elder Scrolls Online

What is it like?
I was thinking about getting this game and wanted to know what it is like before buying it.
Im really into the darksouls series and was wondering if it was anything like that?

Let me check... mmm... No, cannot find the tag Soul-like anywhere for this title.

i like the game although it can be grindy at times. Just be careful what you say in the chat though. People will report you for anything and everything just so you get banned/suspended, no matter how stupid it is. Real grade a community here.

Right now there is a bug where a new install will actually not work, so at least wait until November 14th, when they said they will be patching it. check other forum discussions.

Ignore the guy above this. ESO is absolutely nothing like Souls, and if anyone thinks that all you need is a stamina bar and a dodge roll (which works NOTHING like it does in Souls) then it's a Souls-like... then you clearly don't have much experience with Souls games, or are just terrible at paying attention to what you're playing.

This is an MMO, through and through. The gameplay has nothing in common with a Souls game, so don't expect it. Combat is also absolutely nothing like Souls games, so don't expect that either. They are absolutely and utterly different.

Elden Ring is like Dark Souls
ESO is like Guild Wars 2 but loads way longer

Guild Wars 2 is my closest comparison as well. ESO has an MMO combat core with action bar skills. You have some basic attacks, a dodge roll, a block and an interrupt. There's a big exploration / collection / completion aspect to the game similar to Guild Wars, where doing stuff in various zones grants you skill points to unlock and upgrade various active and passive skills. Some skill lines are gained by levelling up, some by using weapons/armor, some via in-game activities such as doing pvp or doing quests for a guild or doing group dungeons, some by crafting...

There's zone quests (which are mostly pretty meh), there's story quests (which range from meh to pretty good), there's pvp battlegrounds, there's 4-man dungeons and 12-man trials.

I love Dark Souls and this game has absolutely nothing to do with the Souls series.

GW2 is nothing like the fluid action combat of ESO, GW2 is its own standalone tab target action combat type thing whereas ESO is pure real action combat with tight decision making, watching boss animations to avoid attacks, etc. you know, the same kinda thing you do in elden ring?

OR you know, literally any game that doesn't have tab targeting combat as its form of combat.

No, you don't in Skyrim for instance, but ESO's combat is closer to Elden Ring than Skyrim by leaps and bounds, especially with the amount of skill required to master it and all the boss mechanics.

good thing i own literally every DLC then even without eso+. great game and every DLC update is worth it.

Just like Dark Souls, it's a game. That's where the similarity ends.
do people play this game with no gears and champ points?

i can literally close my eyes and press 1 button all day to kill mobs.

overland world bosses is nothing but resource management and self healing.

dlc world bosses are just zerg mode.

overland vet dungeouns are braindead, u don't need a tank at all.

dlc dungeouns are hard only because you pugging with undergear players and they have literally zero clue on boss mechanics. If you join an actual pve guild, the dlc bosses just melts.

The game is like a dodgy rollercoaster in a run down theme park: you can get on it and enjoy it, but while you are riding you will regret that you chose it as your last ride.

Yeah definitely its a souls game.
At least you got soul gems which are usually empty but you can fill an empty soulgem by killing an enemy
and you can craft food at bonfires.
Also you will find thousands of matching posts if you just type dark souls in the search function in the eder scrolls forum
most of them will tell you you should go play dark souls if ESO is too easy for you though.
Has anyone ever said ESO is too easy for them? Veteran hard mode trials and dungeons are some of the hardest content in any game I've ever played.
