Login: "An unexpected internal error has occurred"

I cannot log in via the steam eso game client. Before I even get to the character selection I am greeted with the "unexpected internal error". It was working fine just 6h ago and it is working with the non-steam version too, though as I have bought most stuff via steam the non-steam version is not an option for me (when was that changed, I am fairly sure back in 2018 I could swap between the two without issues?).
Does anyone else have this error and is this a known issue, is there a fix?

EDIT: The issue seems to have been resolved for me at least with no specfic action on my part.

i am having his issue too, no clue how to fix it, have even tried launching via eso file and running as admin. i also checked bethesda's twitter and nothing is said about it just yet

I am having this issue also and I don't run add-ons. I've tried everything to fix the issue. I was also on roughly 6h ago and it worked just fine

Same problem here. A friend of mine is playing right now using Steam though, so it's not a Steam issue - at least not for all users.

was your friend logged in since a while though or were they able to log in the same time you weren't? As I said, I was able to log in earlier without any issues, but now I can't anymore.

I'm having unexpected login error messages as well. Can't even get to the character select screen. And theirs nothing on twitter saying they are having issues.

steam login servers response are slow, even in eso website ,this might cause a time-out in launcher

Try this:
1. Exit ESO.
2. Delete the ESO shader cache file ( ..\eso\live\shadercache.cooked ).
3. Delete ALL files within the Nvidia cache folder (%appdata%\local\NVIDIA\DXCache\ ).
4. Restart ESO. The above files will be automatically rebuilt.

Unnecessary, it's working again. Everything you did didn't helped you. It was coincidence
