Eso Plus
They say I can't do anything in the game without a subscription, is it true?

nope, you can play the base game plus the Morrowind chapter without an ESO Plus sub, the sub is just there for more convenience.

You're made to purchase dlc content and crafting is very difficult without ESO plus due to storage constraints, but the game is otherwise perfectly fine without it

One work around you might try is to use Ezabi, the portable Khajit banker you can summon. He costs real life money, but you could spend money once to get him, use him to offload your crafting supplies and then just pull it out when you need it. Personally I just pay for ESO and use him to store weapons and such for later, but he's incredibly handy. There's another one that's a portable merchant you can summon to sell your junk to as well do you don't have to go back to a town.
no need to sub until you finish base game, you have thousand of hours for base game to enjoy, though if you skip all the voice dialogues, the hours decrease dramatically.

think of eso a story book game.

I have 5 thousand hours of gameplay without ESO+. (Except when they give it away for a week like they usually do).

I have a lot friends in ESO and i would say about 50% are playing without ESO+... and they do it for thousands of hours. They have their way with the management of their bank etc.
I would never play without it, but it's totally possible.
And you can buy crowns ingame with gold too... so you can buy all the store stuff with ingame "work" (goldfarming)
during free trial, make dummy accounts to start your own guild bank, free 500 bank storage.

They said that, did they? Who is they?
Man of Wö Oct 25, 2022 @ 11:50am
The shadowy "the They" of course

No you can do a lot without it:Imperial:
You can play with no ESO+ and I have for several years... BUT, you have to work for it.

You need to create as much characters as possible, you need to level up inventory to all at max (that includes the 2 months you need to level up horse inventory), you need to get a guild bank with dummy accounts either yours or if you´re lucky from a friend, you need to buy a house where you can put all containers and get them. And after all that, you need to come out with a system.

For me I have 9 characters, so for instance one carries all Style mats, one all ENchanting mats, another all Alchemy mats... etc. This means that every day you have to log in with all your characters and take with each one from the bank the mats they carry to leave the bank free. You can even do some crafting if you do it like this and are organized, but not for too long because eventually every character will be left with almost no space. I generally leave at least 20 spaces in each character inventory, since that´s a good number for all the stuff you can end up after a dungeon/trial. And off course owning any of the NPCs Bankers and Merchants will be extremelly helpfull so you don´t have to go back to town every time.

IT´s both the bank and character inventory that gets cut in half, you always have to be calculating the space you still have, initially it won´t be much, but if you eventually use those characters for anything other than carrying stuff you gonna need more space for sets and whatnot. Also be aware that it´s not just inventory, you also get less money, less XP, half furniture in decorations, and you don´t get a sinlge new mechanic feature from the DLCs which would lock you out of some really interesting content or from being an assassins/thief.

So overall, YES, you can play without ESO+, but the game is though to constantly remind you your time would be much pleasant with ESO+, and if you don´t get ESO+ if you intent to play beyond simply midly exploring base game zone for curiosity, you will eventually spend money on the game. People claim base game is "thousand of hours", but no, I´ve done Cadwell Gold with several characters and belive me, even reading and doing every side quest it´s more like 90 hours tops if you´re really slow, if you trully go for it, know where the quests are, don´t do side ones, are a fast reader and don´t do anything but zone questing, you could chug it in 30-40 hours.

when this guy say "you need to" , it's more about being his way to play.

I had only 1 character for years, without sub.
I have now 2, not for having more storage, but because I like playing the other class.
I got dlc on sales, and I don't like the idea of paying a fee to access dlc.

the idea of hoarding mats is just something that will make you sub, because you don't need 400'000 piece of wood or steel in your bank.
I don't even remember the last time I crafted something..

I mean, if you need mats to craft, you can go get some in the wild or buy the mats, and then craft, you don't need 9 char to hoard materials to make sword lmao.

leveling up main professions can be done just by deconstructing items.
so ye, my two chars have all profession maxed, doesn't take long.
the main learn the plans.

Ezabi is a girl but i think you might have been thinking of Fezez the merchant, i have no idea why this bothered me but it did.

Probably because Ezabi is adorable.

Wait... are you implying... when a human person writes in an oppinion thread they may be expressing their own.... *gasp* OPPINION?!?!?!?!?!? WHAT A SHOCKER!!! I totally didn´t see that one comming, you should work with M.Night Shamalalamadingdong seeing how much you enjoy plot twist.

And yes, if someone doesn´t pick materials they won´t need that inventory, yet again an amazing concept you bring into the table that no human could have ever understood from my message because it wasn´t specify. THank Crom you inform OP about it though, otherwise they may get the impression inventory just fills itself every so often on a time limit.

That really was helpfull and informative, we all are in your debt. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and the top of it, because you are the cream of the pie my sweet, sweet, jelly bean ray of golden sunshine.

yes, op asked if it's possible to play without sub and you reply to him that it's possible BUT that you have to work for it, and that you NEED to make as much character as possible.

you seems triggered by my post, what's up with you?

your answer is misleading, cause you don't HAVE to work for it, and you don't NEED to make as much char as possible, so yes.

next time try formulate like "you can make more characters if you want mules to store mats."

saying to a new player that he has to play the game like a job can turn him off and he might not even try the game.

cheers.
