does this game ever get more difficult?
I feel like there isn't any actual gameplay, no tactic decisions to make, no strategy - just approach your target and click click click until the game lets you move onto the next target, which you will in turn click click click and so on - you get new items, you get new abilities, you level up, you're asked to make decisions in quests... none of it seems to matter whatsoever.

I ran through the Khajit area first, and I eventually started unequipping all my weapons and just punching my way through everyone, bosses included - no challenge whatsoever.

am I missing something? is there an actual game here??

The game was dumbed down a lot from it's original release. ESO was always mean't as a story driven mmorpg, which in it's nature is a more "casual" experience. They therefore decided to take a different direction with their One Tamriel update and make the game more accessible and generally easier so you can progress through the story without getting stumped on gameplay challenges.

The game still offers a more challenging experience more akin to other mmorpg's that some are familiar with. You'll usually find a greater challenge in DLC Dungeons, Veteran Dungeons, Veteran DLC Dungeons, Trials, Veteran Trials, and Hardmode for both Veteran Dungeons & Veteran Trials.

Edit: Both solo & group Arenas provide a greater challenge aswell.

if you talk overland questing and delves/public dungeons, then yes, it is easy and stays easy.
even the later dlc and chapter still remain easy despite the devs adding some time-waste mechanics like invulnerablity phases to bosses and so on. with the exception of some very few worldbosses there is absolutely no danger while questing.

for the rest, lafitte above said it quite well.
the biggest challenge will be pvp tho. thats the only place where you are in real danger :)

Overland is intentionally extremely easy.

Dungeons are a step up. When you hit level cap you can do a veteran instance that is typically much harder. Mechanics left undone will actually kill you. You actually need to be a tank to tank. Healers need more than one heal to keep the group alive.
Past that there's trials, and then there's hardmodes for both dungeons and trials which buff the boss more and add new mechanics. DLC Dungeons are also generally harder than base game since at release PvP was the main focus.

It eventually does get harder. ZoS is insisting on constantly making the game easier so it's more accessible, though. They do sometimes make veteran trials easier too, though since that takes effort it's rarer.
they screw it up badly because during story bosses, they die so fast you don't even get to play their mechanics.

yeah, it does.

rada during the reach endfight spent more time in his invulerability phases than doing actual boss stuff. without them, that ultimate final encounter for a yearlong story would have been over in mere seconds.

The only challenging content in MMOs are in the endgame.

ESO has one of the best theorycrafting and players skill impact on your performance.
But you will not find it in overland, which is devoted to roleplayers.

Since you have like 6 hours in the game, your challenge is to be level 50 with 160 champion points, grind to get the gear to increase your damage output from arenas and veteran dungeons, then hit trials/veteran trials and veteran DLC dungeons.

The only challenge you will get solo as high level are solling world bosses and arenas, unfortunatly

The game is largely a DPS race, you either do damage or you don't.

If you do, then the answer is that it won't be more difficult.

Even with the next update, it will just be more time-consuming and gear-based, ultimately stepping even closer to P2W.

ZOS needs a new creative director at this point. As long as they won't add new systems into the game, esp. concerning combat, what you see is what you will get.

Try some of the more challenging bosses and you will see how far punching gets you.

Agreed with some of the comments above. The game is very story intense and is geared for soloing? Soloing will stay easy no matter where you're at in the story and no matter what your level. You're only challenge will be world bosses if you were to solo them. You'll die on most of them a few times before you kill them. In later dlcs you may not be able to solo them but will need a group which is fairly easy if you do a zone shout about a boss being up.

While I don't mind the easy solo I do wish that they'd offer a difficulty select for story dungeons like how D&D Online has or at least change how the bosses fight depending on your level.

If you want decidion making and strategy sadly this only happens a bit later. The solo arenas are a good bit of content on veteran. People who've done them a lot say they're easy, but for a new player they can be very challenging. But yeah most overland content and even the dungeons are easy.

Nah, it will stay casual unfortunately. All the good content has been ruined
