Does the game still stutter a lot on certain hardware?
Back in march an update caused the game to look like this for some people.

Anyone who had that problem still playing? Can you share if it is fixed?

I had that kind of issue back when I had my old i5-6600k CPU a few years back playing this game but the game runs flawlessly now since I upgraded to a Ryzen 5 5600x. 0 issues since then despite my weak 1070. I can only assume the game is very heavy on the CPU and older ones will have issues.

it's possible since I don't know your specs or settings that your game is set too high than your pc or laptop can actually handle so it's lagging badly. Rendering huge distances is extremely taxing btw.

Only stutters I see now are when I have a ton of players all fighting together in raids where you'll have a butt ton of particles on your screen from their spells or effects but that's mainly my gpu's fault. Lowering the max particles fixes that issue and massively populated cities are no sweat considering your video is small with few players around. Has to be spec related from what I can guess

Running the game itself is a mixed bag as you will see if you look around these forums and the official forums, so if you had an issue it likely is still present.

If you already own the game, might as well test it if you care enough to?

Maybe not if you have a bandwith cap or something. PvP stuttering will always be an issue because the game devs don't know how to memory manage and use VRAM. Only a faster CPU and GPU can negate the dev team's laziness.

Something called, "Anti-lag" got turned on for the AMD setting at one point for me (Bethesda direct version). It causes this effect you show in the video, so i turned it off and the stuttery hitching went away.

It seems ironic that it is called "anti-lag", but causes lag.

Aha, that would make sense. Reminds me of an old mod for New Vegas called Stutter remover that was made to help reduce stutters or remove them entirely for performance. It ended up doing the complete opposite making the game stutter even harder than before

I noticed older processors are starting to have a harder time with eso now too. That can be fixed by installing a M.2 NVMe drive on your computer. If your computer is too old for a NVMe SSD plug on the motherboard, you can get a PCIe card (that you put the NVMe into) to go into the second PCIe slot on the motherboard.

I am not sure what that is or how to check this "Bethesda direct version" you are talking about.

Yeah this is the topic from march. We all had issues here except for one guy claiming it was just buy a new computer. But people with new computers had the same issue. So one guy was just constantly guessing and guessing and blaming us. It was update 33. Update 33 even affected a streamer in that topic. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/599878/fps-drops-after-u33
I have 3090 and 12900K no stutter here peasants

So before march update I could sprint from the stormhaven wayshrine to the undaunted camp and keep a stable framerate. I reinstalled the game and my framerate drops halfway sometimes and I'm even playing on lower settings now.

So it looks like udate 33 back in march still hasn't been fixed since that was exactly the update that did this performance hit for some of us. I can't believe this topic is now 5 months old and nothing came out of it. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/599878/fps-after-patch

Do you have an in-game overlay to show the % of resources being used when this is occurring? My guess would be that your CPU % spikes, fluctuates, then settles during that period of time, and repeats the process over again.

Also, do you play with add-ons? Have you disabled all of them to see if the problem persists afterwards? I know some of them are more resource intensive, like Minimap by Fyrakin.

This topic... https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/599878/fps-after-patch is everything that has been troubleshooted for the past 5 months. Without sounding rude the fastest way to answer anything you could possibly think of as the problem is more than likely already been discussed.

The devs are not sharing anything that could be the cause, but made a post a month ago saying they are talking about it internally.

I just wanted to find anyone who has the same issue and ask if it's fixed yet. Since posting in that official topic gets moderated constantly for 'bumping' and 'baiting'.

In the end I redownloaded it today. A fresh install. The issue persists. It's not as bad since I am playing it from an ssd now and on lower settings, but I can see the stuttering like a sore thumb when before march that never happened.
