And you probably get a champion point because you are playing random dungeon and that gives you a reward at the end. Some items through mail and some xp. If you do a dungeon for the first time in 20 hours then you will get a lot more xp and better items. This applies to battleground as well. So it's worthwhile to do at least 1 dungeon and battleground. Although bg can be frustrating as you have to reach at least second place to get that reward, which while may not sound that hard, at times you can get unluck for like 5-6 matches and lose them all in a row.
Also public dungeons give you a skill point too if you do the "group event" (for which you just need to kill a specific boss in the dungeon). They also have a skyshard like delves.
