How to use pledge of Mara?

Hello! My partner and I would like to do the ritual of Mara ingame, so I got the pledge, we went to a shrine of Mara, I hovered over their character and tried to use the scroll via quickslot but it wont work for some reason no matter how often I try. I also tried relogging. Is there something else I need to do the ritual or how does it work?
