Trying to Create Storage
The house (really, room) they give you when you start the game is great. I just need to figure out how to buy storage boxes economicaly. In the crown store they offer a "tamrielic household necessities pack" for 200 crowns. Can the crates and barrels in this pack store items in this new house?

Yes, but there is a limit. If you are talking about the inn rooms, you can have only one of these storage chests there. Also, if Im not mistaken, you get one for free when you reach a certain level, but it is only in the first character. This chest can store 30 items.

In my opinion, its better to level the bank (with gold, not crowns), as you will have to travel to the house every time you need something from these chests. You can also buy backpack upgrades from the pack merchants.

Thanks for the information. The banks of course are the same bank with the same items in different cities throughout the world, right? And all the characters in the account share this bank, right?

No, the crates & barrels in the 'Necessities Pack' do not store items, they are decorative only. What you want for storing items in your house are coffers & chests which can be found in the Crown Store under Furniture - Storage. They cost 1k Crowns for coffer & 2k Crowns for chest.

However as Wolfstorm mentioned, you will recieve one for free when your first character reaches a certain level. (I can't remember for sure exactly which level, but I think it's around 18 or 20)

You can also obtain them via Master crafting writ vouchers or Tel Var stones.

You can find info on the storage chests here -

and yes, the banks are the same all throughout Tamriel, and yes all your characters share the same bank.

Thanks. Chests in houses seem to be the way to go because you can teleport to your house whenever you want. I don't mind spending a few gold to get back to where I was before. Maybe banks can help with items you need all the time. And thanks for rescuing me from buying that "necessities pack!"

Buying those storage boxes with crowns is very expensive imo. The writ master sells them for vouchers and they can also be bought with tel var stones in the Imperial City, which is the cheapest method. However; as Wolfstorm may agree with me, I don't recommend farming tel var stones at all. It requires you to spend time in Cheatodiil, the place which developers should have dumped a long time ago because of multiple snipes hitting you all at once.

I would prefer to buy a character slot, which costs half the price of those storage chests. A bag character can hold up to 60 slots.

Six characters that stay by the chest stores 360 slots.

My mistake. A character slot cost 1500 crowns, the storage cost 2000. Both store 60 slots. But I think it is better to buy the slot, anyway. You can always use it for a true character, later.

There's a bit of a false dichotomy here; yes the storage chests cost crowns, but you can also trade for them with crown gift guilds.

With the Tamriel Crown Exchange (TCE) you could get a 60 slot chest for 350k gold right now. No tell var, writ vouchers or crowns needed. You're farming gold anyway, this just gives you somewhere to spend gold (after bank and bag upgrades of course).

(In b4 "TCE is an evil mafia cabal trying to control the crown exchange rate, buy from zone sellers for cheaper!!" I have never been scammed on TCE and I did lose 410k to some seemingly perfectly nice zone seller. I'll take the higher exchange for the broker guarantee thanks)

Just a note on something you wrote here.

You don't have to spend any gold to teleport to your houses, it is free. Using wayshrines is free too, as long as you teleport from one wayshrine to another. You can teleport to players in your guild, friends list and your group for free too.
