Warning - Alchemist Certification Con Job
Beware. When you take the alchemist certification quest from Danel, the game tells you two things: [1] you should combine a mountain flower and a columbine to make a sip of health, and [2] you have to taste ingredients to see what they actually do.

The [2] is a misdirection con job. If you go where the flowers are, and consume them as it seems like the game is suggesting, those two flowers never reappear anywhere around that same location--even if you abandon the quest and try to start over..

I looked on the web for ingredients to create a sip of health, and spent the better part of two hours searching for them (a butterfly wing--which was reather easy--and a water hyacinth--which was nearly impossible to find). I eventually was able to combine those and create a sip of health, but since it wasn't the exact flowers Danel suggested, it did not fulfill the quest.

Bottom line: If you take the bait and consume the flowers to see what they do--as the game instructs you to do--you are screwed.

Those flower nodes spawn everywhere. The quest just gives them to you in a known convenient spot. I have hundreds in my inventory for crafting as they are needed for some of the best potions.

You can buy materials from guild traders if you don't wanna look for them. A mountain flower and a columbine would only cost about 200g. (for both)

I am going to keep the quest, now that I have started the other five crafting jobs. I did not see another columbine or mountain flower in two hours of looking, but i will keep an eye out for them.

I tried all of the guild traders in the area, and none of them had either ingredient.

Sometimes it's happens. You can try to find a place where plenty of alchemist plants grows and circle there. It's not very fun, but do the thing. I do this for dailys early in the levels when I don't have enough of materials yet. It usually took me only about half of hour to get 3 corn flowers for example. Resp time is very fast, really. Addons also can help with this.

You could also just abandon the quest and then start it over. That should work for spawning those specific nodes again. Be quick on tracking them down though as I am quite sure others can see them too.

You're not screwed you can buy what you need, find it in the wild, buy it from other people, trade for it.

He tells you to eat it to learn what it's effects are to making mixing easier but is in no way reuired.Your google skills are very lacking if you could not find how to mix them.

found this by just googling ESO Sip Of Health...

https://eso.gaiscioch.com/marketplace/items/8891/

The nodes you pick will come back over a set time, just because you eat them does not mean they will not come back, though giving the current event nerby nodes prolly pop up more rare due to more people picking them so less odds of you finding them.

any of these venders will sell as much as you want providing you have the gold..

If you're doing the daily writs in Vulkhel Guard like most people because everything is near by,then you can find all you need from vendors at The Crystal Vial or there is a food vender nearby that has a chef and brewer for the provision needs.

There are also add-ons that will show you where all this stuff is on the map so you can easily find stuff you need.Though if you don't have a craft bag from ESO+ I would save the time and effort and just buy what you need, you will make far more then you will spend on gold to buy the stuff you need.

Water Hyacinths, as their name suggests, can be found near water, often lakes and rivers. (same as Nirnroot) Two good spots especially are Phaer in Auridon and the lake in Stonefalls between the Iliath Temple & Fort Virak wayshrines.

The starter zones are good for all nodes, including alchemy. Also, if you can get to Coldharbour, Hollow City is a great place for harvesting plants as well.

North Point in Rivenspire is another good place to go - plenty of butterflies and nodes

In Stonefalls you can also find two water hyacinth spawn points right in the middle of Davon's Watch, in the little pond under the bridge.

Must be new player. There is millions of ingredients all over Tamriel

As someone else suggested above, you may be having trouble because the anniversary event is still going on this week, which means (a) there are a tons of people playing at any given time, and (b) most of them are trying to do crafting dailies, which means they may be out looking for ingredients, too.

As other people have said, your best bet is to start looking for common ingredients the moment you start playing a new character, so that you have a supply ready to go the moment you are ready to start crafting. Admittedly, this is a lot easier if you have the ESO+ craft bag, but not impossible without it.

Base game allows 8 characters, use these extra slots as storage if you don't have ESO+ and craft bag, new characters start off with 60 inventory slots

Thanks for the many thoughtful replies. I will put that quest on the back burner for now and forge ahead. I have no doubt that eventually I will find what I need for that quest.

Just so you know. When you get the items needed you (HAVE) to speak to the guy in Vivic before making the potion.

I made this mistake of not properly reading the quest.
