Necromancers aren't necromancers
In the trailer it shows a necromancer surrounded by skeletons as it talks about the new necromancer class. In truth there is only one skeleton you can summon and it only stays around for 16 seconds and acts more like a turret than a minion.

In TES games necromancers have always been around ice and summoning magic. In this game you throw bones at people and do a bunch of other bs that necromancers don't do.

Why isn't there a spec to be a undead pet class? Did the devs just forget what the hell a necromancer is? Pretty much every type of necromancer in any form of media has been around making and controlling undead monsters yet you THROW BONES AND HEAL PEOPLE!

How would I do the class? You summon a skeleton mage/warrior and when you use your abilities they do them for you. You control your mage/warrior skeletons to smash and cast spells. Instead... you throw bones... How is this alright?

You could always just play AOC. The necros in it get some of the coolest looking minions I've ever seen in a mmo.

Im glad they didnt make it another perma pet class, the last thing we needed was more trash getting in the way of turning in writs or targetting players in pvp.

Not to mention I think pet classes are kinda lame.

I'd have to agree. D2 necromancer is a treat to play. Golems or Skeletons? Hmmm.

Large scale corpse explosions are nice, too.

ESO necromancer is...meh.

With both Wardens and Sorcerers (although Warden's permanent pets is an ultimate), I think it would be too much to have a necromancer-based pet class as well. First of all, there'd be too many pets, but secondly (and more importantly) I think this keeps the classes more unique from one another.
Even in TES necromancers were about manipulating souls, undead servants, and stuffing minor daedric spirits into bodies, undead warriors are the bread and butter of necromancers. It's meant to be an offshoot of the conjuration school.

It's a shame they didn't decide to go that route. A dedicated pet master would've made for a cool class. I get that two classes already have a pet of some sort, but having the chance to play an evil-type necromancer was my hope. Even in the trailer they made it seem like you could surround yourself with minions.

not all D2 necro builds rely on summoning an army.

I can definitely see where he's coming from tho, I feel a lot of D2, even D3 necro in the eso necro.
Guild Wars 1 & 2 both have Necromancers that can have pets. I've only played 2 though

While I can understand the criticism... pet classes in ESO suck balls. you have almost no control over them outside an attack button that requires you hold Y and click. And even then they will IMMEDIATELY disengage the assigned target to attack whatever you're attacking.

Worse to add insult to injury pretty much all the context activatables for them simply aren't fun. Or have poor visual cues.

I'm actually glad they took the route they did with the Necromancer. If this was wow or even Guildwars where you have a larger skill bar to work with and better pet mechanics I'd say you guys are right. But neither of those things are the case. And the unique class mechanics they do have make them fun to play.

I feel I should also remind people that the very term necromancer is derived from Lovecraft's works...and encompassed a great deal more than just creating zombies.

Having another pet class would be redundant with sorcerer and warden already being in the game. I wish they would increase the duration of the necro summons but stil, it makes for a much more active class since you have to recast the summons more frequently (something I personally like).

Having the necro control a small army would be a nightmare to balance. Not only the performance but also the AI, what abilities they would have and the balance in PvP. With how the targeting works, half the time you wouldn't be able to hit the necro.

You stil have 3 summon pets with the blastbones, skeleton arcanist and spirit mender, some or all of whom are used on necromancer builds.

You also have the gargantuan ultimate as another arguable summon, you can turn yourself into a bone giant and resurrect dead teammates.

You suck the life force from recently dead corpses and enemies with various abilities, either harming enemies or healing/restoring yourself and teammates.

I will admit that I wish some of the abilities could be more useful or different, especially the scythe. But I can't really understand where you're getting the impression that necro doesn't summon the dead.

redundant? really? but every stamina class using the same 2h abilities since this game's inception is not redundant.... get real
So, what if they made another pet class? more pet-classes are fine, make each pet act and have different abilities and passives; that's creative, no? it is perfectly ok to mimic or copy other mmos that are successful, looking at WOW. unholy Death Knight are a good example of what a stamcro could play like, or their magicka counterpart (magcro) can be a combination of affliction warlocks with a pet like how affliction warlocks still had a pet summoned and each pet had a different ability. but no, let's make mag sorcerers the only class that is unique. the only thing I see when I look at eso's necromancer class is laziness and lack of creativity. yes, just another weapon skill, guild skill ability class.
talking about redundancy...
