Game suddenly is terribly laggy
Game was fine for a few weeks but today it suddenly went to crap. All day it is so laggy I can't even play. Drivers have been updated, game cache verfied... Anyone have any ideas to fix it?

* Go into ESO options and disable the "Multithreaded Rendering" option.

* Enable "Game Mode" in the Windows Settings.

* Check to see if there are any background apps running that use network services.

It's a start. :)

It's not a problem on any player's end. It's the actual server.

I personally have no knowledge of that since I don't work there.

Just assuming that the person might need to adjust his/her settings and that the issue is local.

If not local, it will probably sort itself out anyway. :)

If it's not local, there is certainly no fix. Ride it out, or peace out, you know..

Nothing has worked so far. Repaired the game cache. Adjusted settings. Updated drivers... seems to be the game just decided to stop working. I'm running a RTX 2070 super so i know it's not my pc.... this game was running buttery smooth before.

always get flamed for this but just as a helpful piece of additional information I have had no issues.

Hope it gets sorted for you guys though

Same. Plus nobody even mentioned what server they were referring to, which kind of makes the whole thing pointless.

I did try both EU and NA servers and it all seems fine to me. Keep in mind the last time I played TESO before today was like almost two years ago and compared to today it works just fine like it did two years ago in terms of the in-game performance.

Weird as I feel the same about it being laggy. My FPS is stable constantly so it isn't that. MS is high (89 on the EU server - normally I'm in the 15-20 range in other games like WoW) so maybe it's that.

Definitely off-putting though.

i am not able to open game today , launcher does not give option to repair

The actual server itself is having problems, it happens a lot in Cyrodiil and it happens in some of the bigger trials. It can also happen in the open world if there are a lot of players in the area.

I'm on the North American servers. It's actually running normally today... Very strange. Hopefully it doesn't go to crap again. The game was basically unplayable yesterday.

The way it is now the launcher practically locks up if the server boots me and I need to quit or login to another toon. I have to kill the task as it's just faster then waiting ten minutes for the launcher to slog through or decide it's booted from the lobby.

They have posted a recent update about the lag in PvP:
https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/595442/eso-pvp-update-january-2022

It’s long past time to give everyone an update on where we are with PvP improvements. As many of you know, we did a series of tests over the last year to give us more data. These tests were successful and gave us the information we needed. We now have a plan going forward - but heads up: it is going to take some time.

In short – just like we did for the client a year or so back when we introduced multithreaded rendering to increase client frame rates – we are going to rearchitect our server. The version of ESO in 2022 is many magnitudes larger and more complex than the ESO that launched in 2014. So, in order to give everyone a good play experience in high-intensity situations like PvP and Trials, we need to essentially rewrite some of the foundational server code to account for it. This should dramatically increase server performance, but obviously we will need to test and evaluate as we go along.

We’ve been planning this for the last quarter and we’re starting work on it right now. But, as you can imagine, changing the fundamentals of a huge live game such as ESO is a delicate and multi-stepped process, so expect this to take up much of 2022. Much of the early work is going to happen behind the scenes and we are definitely not going to rush it. A re-architecture of this magnitude will require the entire game to be re-tested and evaluated, as this particular code is the foundation on which the game is built. It will take tons of QA and testing time as well, and I’m sure that when the time comes, we’ll do as large a test as we can on the PTS.

In the meantime, we’ll consider additional ways to keep Cyrodiil and Battlegrounds interesting and exciting (for example, potentially special rulesets or weekend events) and will continue to work on bug fixes affecting combat, but we won’t be adding any new features to PvP until the work mentioned above is complete. Doing so would not only prolong the fixes we want to implement but would also exacerbate the issue of poor performance.

We completely understand the frustration many of you are feeling, especially with lack of information about our PvP plans. This was a huge decision to make and we needed to make sure we had exhausted all other possibilities before announcing this. Thanks for bearing with us, and we will give you periodic updates about the re-architecture progress over the course of the year.
