The companion system in fact is probably in the top 3 things keep SWTOR alive, because everyone loves it.
Correction: Neverwinter is actually not fine but that's because of the pay to win monetization, not companions lol
My thoughts exactly. No further comments on that matter.
IDK about SWTOR... yyyyyet, but I do know that ESO isn't exactly as easy as many people boast constantly to belittle those who dare to say otherwise (for fun or to feel important, who cares of those "I'm perfect and this is ez" bigots). Even if I were wrong, changes coming on June 1 will test the might of those"this is ez" bigots: They may add base resources in a generous amount and give a tiny amount of extra damage (and not nerf resistances other than armor), but they'll nerf--in some key places--crit chance, crit dmg, penetration, armor, status invulnerability, proc chance, prebuff, movement speed bonuses; while they buff enemies proc chance (to 100% flat, so RIP vampires and transformed WW's).
Even the CP system will take a serious impact by reducing how much you can have at once (in the current system, you can have it all at once active, and they only would need to open the CP pipe like they will in June for that to happen). Just cuz you have access to the whole 3600 CP (after proper grind ofc) doesn't mean you can use all the perks at once. I just hope they at least allows at release to have enough to perform our roles like we used to or better. Hybrids are already screwed as usual w the CP changes, so no improvement from the CP side for hybrids.
The good news is that they started to partially join weapon and spell aspects for things that should never have been separated. SOME gear and passives will join weapon and spell dmg/crit-chance/crit-dmg (but not w/o nerfing their number). Didn't see any merge in weapon and spell penetration or resistance, but we can hope for any before release. That's something good toward make hybrid characters in a not close future.
I'm not sure how useful Companions will result in ESO (I hope very useful), but w the incoming nerfs we will need all the help we can get, as ZoS wanna push us to force grouping (lets see how that goes at EU server in all platforms).
They did say that they were going to up the basic stats on the character as they were going to be removing the increase attribute type CP point allocation. They were going to try to balance the character so that you didn't lose out, so they are thinking about it.
Oh, I've never played that! How is it's state?
Lol on the contrary I maybe buying this expansion and come back to the game just because of the oblivion era and npc companion system
Unlike you I am not an elite player and often die a lot from just trying to solo quest , hell I don’t even complete the main story quest yet after 6 years of buying this game because I keep dying in molabale’s world ?
I often summon the banker just to have someone following me around and even started playing warden to have a pet just so I don’t have that feeling on dealing things on my own , as my friends aren’t interested in ESO they only interested in real game like the classic Everquest / project gorgon / pantheon : rise of the fallen
Also FF14 1.0 had them and they had them again in 2.0 but in a different format (remake of the game for those who don't know) and eventually got a new system in the last expansion neither were like 1.0 where you could literally fight side by side with someone wherever you go.
Companions in MMOs are great, why do some people expect everyone to be willing to play with others? Both FF14 and ESO are designed as single player games with multiplayer support. That doesn't mean all content can be completed "solo" but the core gameplay is designed where people can enjoy most of the game without others. Some people play for the immersion, the story, not to deal with people's drama or just people in general. When you're tired of working all day, the last thing you may want to do is deal with more people. Personally, I'm hyped about the companion system, not because I don't like people, I'm quite social actually, but because I love the idea of leveling and customizing a NPC to go on adventures with me. It sounds neat like a tomogachi.
Yes I agree. I can't play in a group often because I'm frequently pulled away from the game and you can't just leave in the middle of a dungeon. If they work the way I'm hoping, a companion would be very useful for me. I'm assuming they're not going to be compulsory? If not then if you don't want them, don't use them.
If they're like FFXIV companions that do fairly low dps that allows me to do group content, but at a slower pace, then yay! I want to do the stories for so many dungeons but everyone always just rushes through them and I miss everything :(
