How common is it to have a level 7 or higher for scrying?

Pretty common I think? Max is level 10. A lot of people have it at 10 and I guess people who do it more casually have it lower.

I maxed it out on one character. Leads are shared across your account, so no need for multiple characters to train it all the way.

True, I'm trying to level up 2 other chars and it's a real pain in the a** as you can't get the basic purple item twice. You must scry greens and blues forever and it's really not worth it.

and there is repeatable leads in every zone (that void anomaly in coldharbour and some totem for example)...

There is usefull passive ability in excavation (Keen Eye: Treasure Chests) that adds glow around treasure chests.

Yes, go as high as you can in scrying and excavation. There are some important equipment you can find, eg Ring of the Pale Order, and some pretty cool furniture.

or you can use an addon for a map wide chest location
