The right guild is really the best way to go. So many randoms just rush through dungeons these days and it's really difficult to learn mechanics etc under those circs.
It pretty much a must if you plan to run trials (if for nothing else, to be able to listen to leader) but if you're not planing on doing that, there should be no issue, and guild that have discord as mandatory usually have it mentioned.
Actually that's a good point. I'm a member of a small discord group and we had a member who NEVER went on voice, but he always listened in. Funny as hell in typed chat, mind.
So you can still join their discord channel even if you don't want voice comm.
You can join my guild The Sun. Theres only one person for now (me). No discord so , only in game chat. Made the guild mostly so me and other interested people can cosplay as Solaire of Astora after getting the tabard.
