save crowns for dlc on sale. buy banker/merchant, vamp house stuff, account character slots, the big hair style pack with all base styles, inventory pets

If you sub, you get access to everything for as long as you're subbed.

And, if subbed, you get a monthly dollop of crowns just about equal to the sub cost and with those you can buy the various DLC so you still have access to them if you cank your sub.

Don't buy old chapters in the crown store. Wait for a sale and buy the bundle at a lot less cost than buying crowns.

For the DLC I agree with what Damac says. It's more expensive to sub than buy crowns but you get access to the DLC and can decide what you want to buy with your crown allowance, as well as all the other benefits.

The actual DLC offered varies a lot in size, content and quality so people rarely buy everything.

I dont plan to subscribe to eso plus. I dont like having to keep paying monmthly for something i already baught, I stoped with ff11 ff14 and wow doing that no plans to continue with eso for that, But besides that.

What are good things to get for someone not wanting to pay a subscription fee.

The DLCs that make a difference: Summerset (supposedly without it you are not able to craft or trait change or upgrade any jewelry) and maybe Greymoor (not sure if Antiquities face the same issue). Everything else - you can buy a month of ESO+ (and instantly cancel after the payment so it doesn't renew) and grind it for the duration of the sub (or you can wait for free sub days to do that).

most items in the store are cosmetics.

if you have crowns to spend... id go first for the assistants, the Banker and the Merchand. both are very handy in the game (dungeons and overland) and can be placed in your home too.
you add them to the quickslot and summon them when ever you need them.

then there are 2 pets that each give "all" your chars another 5 inventory slots (so 10 slots for 2 pets). you dont have to activate them like the other non combat pets. owning is enough.

at last, as already mentioned, you can buy the dlcs (area or dungeon, whatever you prefer). those that grant an extra like summerset with the jewelry crafting or greymores antiques could be your first, but thats up to you. also the 4 dlc bundel guilds and glory (well IC is free now so it actually a 3 dlc bundel XD).

id also advise to wait for some sales, it happens random that things get reduced in the store. bought the assistants on EU and NA during one ;)

Edit:
if you dont use a credit card for subscribing it wont renew, i use paysafe now and pay only for 3 months each time.

You do you, I just want to clarify something.

Say you want to buy 5k crowns. You can buy 5K crowns or you can subscribe as a one off payment for 3 months for roughly the same amount and get 4500 crowns but with all the benefits. As long as you go in and cancel the subscription so it doesn't renew, you aren't paying monthly and you're not having a recurring amount being taken out of your account.

It's just another way of buying crowns with some added extras.

Also some people are suggesting buying old chapters with crowns. It really is the most expensive way of doing it. Buying the old chapters with Blackwood outright in a sale is much cheaper.
