This.
I'm glad you got it covered by other player, and w/o pay gold (paying for it is not a thing since at least 1.5 yrs now).
Also, the Bloodfiends and Werewolves that can infect you in the 3 specific game zones can do it only during the full moon cycle of the 2 moons (no, you don't want anyone go through such oddisey). There is at least 1 addon that can tell you when such event happens, as it is a Tamriel clock w date (name: Clock - Tamriel Standard Time), that also tells you the state of the moon and when it will be full and when it ends. There, time date, moon phase, and when will the full moon start or end, all in 1 tiny addon. All that info is placed in 2 discrete locations: a small rectangular zone that you can zoom in and out, and a discrete tooltip that pops when hover over the visual of the actual moons state.
After such hassle, the infection wouldn't happen upon a single contact w the Bloodfiend or Werewolf. You may take some hits in combat and still not, so you may need to fight more than one (which surely will happen w the Bloodfiends as they normally group). That gets complicated when you get experienced players eradicating the whole population of infecting beings for no good reason no matter the state of the moon, w zero benefit for them at all
Welp, enjoy your new state of being and help others when you get the passive unlocked.
Should, but on the contrary, it shows as a "buff". It shows which infection specifically you have, so you know if you have the right infection and so forth if is the right time for conversion.
If the infection was by a fellow player, you get the quest starter item right close to you at the shrine. After you grab it, you can go for it or get cured if you prefer not. Within the quest lies the full conversion. You can go around forever w the infection w/o becoming "that", so you must do the quest for the skill line and all its gods and bads, or to pay a priest of Arkay help you wipe your tears.
If you got infected by an NPC, you should have an NPC of "that kind" inviting you to the place--a shrine of "that kind"--where you can get full conversion.
