use task manager to kill it
An unfortunate bug that may happen, as well as the program itself not ending sometimes. It happened to me sometimes when game crashes while I'm in PvP areas. The only way I can find to close the program to restart it w/o touch anything else in the PC is to open the Task Manager find the ESO process or the Zenimax Launcher process and End Task to force kill it. Then I'm free to reopen the launcher and press play. I had to do this quite some times within an hour when something important is going on and cannot quit forcing myself being in game and finish such important business.

Use such method when ESO truly doesn't let you close it by regular methods (clicking the provided places doesn't work). In order to make it work when the crash doesn't let you get off game mode screen, you must have the Task Manager to open "Always on top" (click "options" and make sure that such option is selected). Also, to open it when you are trapped at game mode (the rare times it happens), open the Task Manager using the hotkeys: CRTL-Shift + Tab.

Hope this helps next time such crash jams pester you amid important matters like vet GD's or Cyro's big defenses.

well i found a somewhat fix to that proplem first of all if you open the launcer make sure your browser is not on then after you click play wait undill you hear the first "blub" sound of the first logo then you can save turn off that launcer but only if your browser is not on it worked for me and it exactly seems thats the reason why it just dont close if i have a browser open so dont have your browser open if you want to play it but you can open your browser after the launcer is gone save

The first time I played ESO from Steam, I had just quit ESO and then tried to close Steam. Wouldn't close. So now I close the launcher first.

After I boot up Steam, I'll go to my Library and hit play on ESO. The launcher appears. I hit Play and enjoy hours of ESO. When I'm finished, I hit quit. The game ends, leaving the launcher and Steam. I close the launcher (hit the x in the top right corner) and after it closes, I close Steam.

Boom, done, No issues. I'll have Firefox and chrome open at the same time - doesn't matter. The browsers have no part in closing either the launcher or Steam.

dont start with the launcher ^^ use that only for patches and updates.

find your eso64.exe in your installation folder and shortcut it to your desktop.

the game runs perfectly without the launcher, its just another (useless advertising) proccess running in the back.

Yeah it's a bit annoying. Kill it with the task manager.

What an annoying glitch. When I open Steam, hit Play to launch ESO, the Launcher opens up as usual, I always have to click either NA or EU, which I always click NA... no big deal. Then I hit Play, and immediately hit the X (Close) in the upper right of the Launcher and it closes, done deal, and game Launches. And it's always been like that for me. Wonder what's making it all screwy for you guys. Because I been playing ESO since 2015 and switched to launching it from Steam for the last 2 in a half years and this has never happened to me.

So, currently having issues with the game itself, and now, I'm not able to stop the game. It just continuously says stopping... Tried finding ESO or zen in the TM but nothing came up so I'm at a huge loss rn, any advice would be greatly appreciated
