Use such method when ESO truly doesn't let you close it by regular methods (clicking the provided places doesn't work). In order to make it work when the crash doesn't let you get off game mode screen, you must have the Task Manager to open "Always on top" (click "options" and make sure that such option is selected). Also, to open it when you are trapped at game mode (the rare times it happens), open the Task Manager using the hotkeys: CRTL-Shift + Tab.
Hope this helps next time such crash jams pester you amid important matters like vet GD's or Cyro's big defenses.
After I boot up Steam, I'll go to my Library and hit play on ESO. The launcher appears. I hit Play and enjoy hours of ESO. When I'm finished, I hit quit. The game ends, leaving the launcher and Steam. I close the launcher (hit the x in the top right corner) and after it closes, I close Steam.
Boom, done, No issues. I'll have Firefox and chrome open at the same time - doesn't matter. The browsers have no part in closing either the launcher or Steam.
find your eso64.exe in your installation folder and shortcut it to your desktop.
the game runs perfectly without the launcher, its just another (useless advertising) proccess running in the back.
