Heavy armour thief?
Just wanted to know if anyone had thought about doing a thief character using heavy armour? I've been using medium on my current khajiit, and I've often had trouble in fights, and balancing out clothing and blacksmithing skills seems to be difficult sometimes, as we need metal for weapons.

So would the detriment to sneaking really be so bad that it would be impractical? I've thought about just stealing and laundering weapons, that way I could just focus on leatherworking skills.
Also, what weapon style should I use? I've been using a pair of daggers, but should I try something else?

A thief build is very viable but you have to remember that you have to IMO treat it more as a range build as the whole point of the build is to be sneaky. You will want Stam for that type build IMO so medium armor is the best choice, heavy is generally meant for better health.Thoug I suppose it's still an option but why limit yourself when you don't need too.

You can also do dual weld/bow which really is what I would aim for in this build as then it gives you options for handling mobs.If you want it just for stealing then really I suppose it doesn't matter what armor you use but if you want it for both battle/stealing then I would say no on the heavy.

You should have plenty of skill points to use them as a crafter and thief and in battle as long as you take the time to get most of the skill points and not invest skills in all of the crafting trees.Though IMO person opinion your better off just having a single character as a crafter,so you can make them learn all of them and avoid most battles.

I use my crafter mostly for Dolmen runs for gear to break down and some light PVP.I'm still fleshing it out and trying to master everything but I'm not sure it will be worth the effort giving peole still tend to want drops over crafted since they usually offer just as good or better for no cost other then time.

for sneaking/stealth, medium armor is a must for stamina builds (also look into sets that give bonuses to sneaking/stealth), if you want to wear heavy armor cause you want to look like a bad@ss, there is the outfit system where you can basically make a costume that looks like heavy armor and wear that over your medium armor sets.

I sneak and thieve just fine in my heavy armour wearing tank, which I find hilarious for that reason ^^ :D

I might make a new character later on with heavy armour, and try going for thieving and assassinations. But I'll stick with my current style for now.
Thanks for the opinions

In ESO, heavy armor doesn't penalize you while sneaking. Instead, medium armor grants bonuses. So yeah, a thief in full plate is possible but will never have it as easy as one wearing leather.

However, many endgame builds for stamina characters will still include one heavy piece (usually the chest) for extra armor and the undaunted passives. I suggest looking into that if you want a bit of extra survivability, just make sure not to drop below 5 medium armor pieces or you'll lose a lot of bonuses you really really need as a stamina char.
